- 2026 Senior World Championship Brackets: Here's When They'll Be Released
American star Kyle Dake is moving into a new weight class on the international stage, while Iran's Kamran Ghasempour and Azerbaijan's Arsenii Dzhioev return with Senior World medals on their resumes.
With highly accomplished wrestlers in the field, 86 kg has plenty of compelling storylines heading into the competition.
Here are three reasons why 86 kg is a must-watch weight class at the 2026 Senior World Championships.
1. Kyle Dake Is Chasing a World Title in a Third Weight Class
Kyle Dake has already won Senior World titles at 74 kg and 79 kg. At the 2026 Senior World Championships, the four-time world champion will attempt to add another chapter to his international career by winning a world title at 86 kg, his third weight class.
Dake captured world gold at 79 kg in 2018 and 2019 before winning back-to-back titles at 74 kg in 2021 and 2022. He added a silver medal at 74 kg at the 2023 World Championships and has earned two Olympic bronze medals at the weight, finishing third at the 2020 Tokyo and 2024 Paris Games.
Now, Dake faces a new challenge against a different group of international contenders. Winning gold at 86 kg would give him Senior World titles across three weight classes, adding another milestone to an already decorated freestyle wrestling career.
2. Kamran Ghasempour and Arsenii Dzhioev Have World Medals
Iran's Kamran Ghasempour is one of the most accomplished wrestlers in the 86 kg field. He won consecutive Senior World titles at 92 kg in 2021 and 2022 before earning bronze at 86 kg at the 2025 World Championships in Zagreb, Croatia. Ghasempour also won back-to-back U23 world titles at 86 kg in 2018 and 2019.
Azerbaijan's Arsenii Dzhioev is another returning world medalist. Dzhioev captured bronze at 86 kg at the 2025 Senior World Championships and earned silver at the 2024 U23 World Championships at the same weight.
Both wrestlers have already demonstrated they can reach the podium at major international competitions. Their experience makes them important names to watch as they pursue another world medal in Astana.
3. The Field Includes an Olympic Champion and a Two-Time U20 World Champion
Beyond Dake, Ghasempour and Dzhioev, the 86 kg division features talented wrestlers with different paths to the senior international stage.
Bulgaria's Magomed Ramazanov brings an Olympic gold medal to the field. He won the 86 kg title at the 2024 Paris Games, making him a notable competitor even though he has not earned a Senior World or age-group world medal yet.
Russia's Ibragim Kadiev has built his credentials at the U20 level, winning consecutive world titles in 2023 at 79 kg and 2024 at 86 kg. He also has yet to earn a Senior World medal, but his age-group success makes him another wrestler to follow.
The combination of an Olympic champion, multiple Senior World medalists and a two-time U20 world champion gives the 86 kg bracket a compelling mix of established stars and wrestlers looking to make their mark at the senior level.
With Dake attempting to win a world title in a third weight class, returning world medalists looking to add to their collections and accomplished younger wrestlers seeking a breakthrough, 86 kg will be a division to watch throughout the 2026 Senior World Championships.
