The 2026 NWCA National Duals Are Finally Here!
The 2026 NWCA National Duals are January 9-10, live on FloWrestling. Here is everything you need to know about the women's freestyle tournaments.

The 2026 NWCA Multidivisional National Duals are January 9-10 live on FloWrestling. Due to the unique dual format, it’s impossible to predict lineups for each team.
However, there are burning questions we want answered when the nation's premier dual event kicks off. Here are storylines.
Click here for seeds, brackets, and information. The NWCA National Duals women’s tournament consists of three separate brackets: NCAA (all divisions), NAIA, and NCAA Division III.
North Central is the only Division III team competing in the all-divisions bracket. The rest are D1 and D2 programs.
Match-by-match National Duals finals results (with links to matches) from 2020-25 are at the end of this article.
Is an Iowa vs McKendree Showdown Imminent?
Top-seeded Iowa is the returning two-time National Duals champion, and, as expected, the Hawkeyes have a monster team.
Second-seeded McKendree has a monster team, too. A showdown between these two powerhouse programs has been the talk of women’s college wrestling all season.
Below are potential match-ups for each team if both reach the finals.
103: #1 Val Solorio/Sterling Dias/Rianne Murphy (I) vs #2 Heather Crull/Katey Valdez (M)
Iowa is in a three-way battle for the starting 103-pound spot. Solorio is the current frontrunner and is expected to start despite missing the 2025 postseason. She competed at 110, but was behind national champions Ava Bayless and Emilie Gonzalez. Murphy finished third at the 2025 National Collegiate Women’s Wrestling Championships, and Dias finished second (2024) and fourth (2025). The Hawkeyes are not short on options here.
Crull and Valdez are true freshmen with stellar high school careers. Crull is a 2025 U23 National champion at 50 kg (110) who finished second behind Lehigh’s top-ranked 110-pounder Audrey Jimenez in the U20 division. This match is crucial for both teams and will set the tone early.
110: #4 Nyla Valencia/Ava Bayless (I) vs #3 Gabby Tedesco (M)
Valencia was injured the past two seasons, but it appears the starting spot is hers, even though Bayless is a 2024 national champion and a fourth-place finisher last season.
Tedesco moved up to 110 after reaching the 2025 103-pound national college finals. She notched a win over Valencia in the 2025 Missouri Valley Open finals in the closing seconds after trailing 3-0 late in the match.
117: #2 Brianna Gonzalez (I) vs #1 Yu Sakamoto (M)
This would be a rematch of the 2025 National Collegiate Women’s Wrestling Championships consolation semifinals won by Sakamoto, 6-5. Gonzalez has finished second and fifth at college nationals, but is a 2025 US Open champion who reached Final X.
Sakamoto is a 2024 U23 World champion for Japan, who finished third at the 2025 National Collegiate Women’s Wrestling Championships after falling 6-5 to Emmanuel’s Karissa Turnwall in the quarterfinals, then earned a 13-0 technical superiority over Turnwall in the consolation finals.
124: #5 Cali Leng/Isabella Marie Gonzales (I) vs #1 Shelby Moore (M)
Moore has finished fifth and second at college nationals, and Leng finished seventh. This is a rematch of a 6-2 win for Moore at the 2025 National Duals (and it got chippy at the end). Freshman Isabella Marie Gonzales is also an option for Iowa.
131: #5 Karlee Brooks/Emily Frost (I) vs #6 Alex Szkotnicki/Cam Guerin (M)
Will we see the return of four-time national champion Cam Guerin? She was injured last season, but she has a COVID year of eligibility. Szkotnicki is a solid option for the Bearcats after finishing third at the 2025 nationals.
Brooks is a freshman who won the Missouri Valley Open with a 2-1 victory over teammate Emily Frost on activity clock points. It’s hard to know who Iowa will use, but Frost has a nasty headlock that can be a problem for anyone she faces.
138: #4 Skye Realin/Lilly Luft/Ella Schmit (I) vs #3 Haylie Jaffe (M)
Realin finished fourth at nationals for McKendree in 2022, Luft finished fifth in 2024, and Schmit finished seventh in 2024. All three are viable options for Iowa. Jaffe is a returning national finalist who secured straight wins over Luft in the best-of-three finals at the 2025 U20 World Team Trials. Realin has a nasty arm spin that could be big if Iowa needs a fall.
145: #1 Reese Larramendy (I) vs #2 Alexis Gomez/Duda Rodrigues (M)
Larramendy kicked off the season with a signature win over 2024 Olympian and two-time U23 World bronze medalist Esther Kolawole (William Penn) at the 2025 NWCA All-Star Classic. She is the 2024 college national champion who finished third in 2025.
Gomez finished third and second at the NAIA Championships for Grand View before transferring to McKendree. She recently notched a win over North Central’s Bella Mir at a Real American Freestyle event, and Mir defeated Larramendy, 6-3, in the semis of the 2025 National Collegiate Women’s Wrestling Championships. Rodrigues is a 2025 U20 World bronze medalist for Brazil with a high ceiling.
160: #1 Kennedy Blades (I) vs #2 Savannah Gomez/Jasmine Robinson (M)
Blades is a 2024 Olympic silver medalist and 2025 World bronze medalist who dominates everyone in college. She could face Gomez, a seventh-place finisher at the 2025 national championships, or Robinson, a 2024 U20 World champion who trains with the Army’s World Class Athlete Program. The National Duals would be Robinson’s first college tournament.
180: Kylie Welker/#3 Katja Osteen vs #2 Destiny Rodriguez/Tristan Kelly
Welker isn’t ranked because she hasn’t competed this season, but everyone knows she’s the best 180-pounder in the country by a country mile. She could split time with Osteen, a two-time All-American transfer from Simon Fraser.
207: #3 Jaycee Foeller (I) vs Tristan Kelly/Rylee Ferranti (M)
This would be a rematch of the 2025 National Collegiate Women’s Wrestling Championships, won by Kelly, 6-0. Foeller is a four-time national finalist (2nd, 2nd, 2nd, 2nd) and Kelly is a three-time All-American (3rd, 3rd, 1st).
The Game Behind The Game
Iowa will consider bumping Welker up to 207 if it comes down to heavyweight, and McKendree will weigh in Kelly at 180. That’s why the coin flip at the beginning of the dual is crucial.
Former King coach Jason Moorman showed off his coaching acumen during the 2023 National Duals finals against North Central when he forfeited to Yelena Makoyed at 170 since the Cardinals had to send their wrestler out first (because of the coin flip). He moved Cheyenne Bowman up to 191, and she defeated Traeh Haynes for the 23-21 team victory.
Here are the possible scenarios if the dual is close with two weights remaining.
Scenario #1: If Iowa has to send a wrestler out first, McKendree can wait to see who the Hawkeyes use. If they use Osteen, McKendree can send out Kelly since she weighed in at 180. Kelly will be favored in the match. The Hawkeyes can use Foeller or bump Welker up to 207.
Scenario #2: If McKendree has to send a wrestler out first, Iowa can wait to see who the Bearcats use. If they use Rodriguez, the Hawkeyes can use Osteen, and Welker will face Kelly at 207, and Welker will be favored.
Scenario #3: Iowa uses Welker at 180 and Foeller at 207, and McKendree uses Rodriguez at 180 and Kelly at 207.
Who Will Iowa Use?
Because of Iowa’s unprecedented depth, they will likely use “backups” in the early rounds to save their stars for the moments that matter. It’s always interesting to see who they roll out.
When Will Cam Guerin Return?
This will be Guerin's first competitive match since the 2024 Olympic Trials, and it will be a test run for the four-time national champion. She’s a pinner with an innovative and imaginative style. Scrambles take energy, so it will be fun to see how one of the best college wrestlers of all time performs during her final season.
When Will McKendree Unleash Its WCAP Stars?
Robinson and Kelly haven’t wrestled for McKendree this season. Will head coach Alexio Garcia give them a few test matches in the early rounds? We can’t wait to find out.
Will The Nigerian Olympians Make It Back To The United States In Time?
Nigeria is hosting its national trials on January 6. That affects 2024 Olympians, Christianah Ogusanya (117) and Esther Kolawole (145). William Penn has a great team that can compete for the NAIA Championships (dual and tournament). Will Ogunsanya and Kolawole make it to Cedar Falls in time to help their team contend for a National Duals title?
Will The Running Eagles Be The Life Of The Party — Again?
It’s hard to imagine that Life will win 36 of 40 individual matches like last year, but the top-ranked Running Eagles are seeking their fourth National Duals title in five seasons. On paper, Life and William Penn will meet in the semis. It could get tight if both teams have their best line-ups.
Will We Get King vs North Central In The Quarterfinals?
King and North Central have history, but both are in a rebuilding phase. Bret Fry took over a King program ravaged by a Tornado (ha ha). The surprise departure of coaching legend Jason Moorman last season left Fry picking up the pieces, but he has exceeded expectations in his rookie season.
North Central has finished second at the National Duals for three consecutive seasons, and will likely face Iowa in the semis if it can get past King. The Cardinals get a second-semester boost with the addition of 2024 national champion Claire DiCugno (a King transfer) at 138.
Joe Norton has options at multiple weights and has a formidable team. National finalists Kaelani Shufeldt (110), Sara Sterner (124), Yele Aycock (131), and Bella Mir (145) are key pieces of the North Central line-up as the team moves through the rounds. Keep an eye out for who Norton uses at 103 and 207. Maddie Avila is a three-time All-American (1st, 4th, 7th) who is in a roster battle with Bri Graves, and he has three quality options at heavyweight, led by Tirza Twoteeth.
Is Simpson vs Wartburg The Next Great D3 Rivalry?
The new Division III bracket offers an opportunity for a budding rivalry. Wartburg (Waverly, Iowa) downed Simpson (Indianola, Iowa), 29-17, on November 5, 2025, but the Storm forfeited at 103, and injury defaulted at 180. Simpson will likely have #7 Emaline Hicks (103) to use this time around.
Wartburg is seeded first, and Simpson is second, so they are predicted to face off in the finals if all goes according to plan.
How Bright Will The D3 Stars Shine?
Some of the country’s biggest stars are in the Division III bracket, highlighted by three-time All-American (2nd, 3rd, 1st) Lexi Janiak of Aurora. US Open champion Xochitl Mota-Pettis transferred from Missouri Valley to Quincy, so we might see her compete again after finishing second at the 2025 NAIA Championships.
No. 3 Zoey Haines (Eastern) and #4 Zoey Lints (Elmira) are 145-pound stars to keep an eye on. Lints reached the U20 World Team Trials finals.
Are The Lakers Ready To Make Waves?
Grand Valley State missed the 2025 National Duals since it was a first-year program. The Jake Short-led team finished fourth at the 2025 National Collegiate Women’s Wrestling Championships and is a contender in 2026.
The Lakers are led by returning national champions Sage Mortimer (110/117), Katie Lange (138), and finalist Sabrina Nauss (180/207). They are predicted to face McKendree in the semifinals, and this is no gimme for the Bearcats. This will be one of the marquee duals of the weekend if it materializes.
Is Providence Divine?
Second-seeded Providence is expected to face No. 3 Grand View in the semifinals. The Vikings reached the 2023 finals, where they fell to Southern Oregon. This could be the first finals appearance for the Argos.
Women's Spotlight: Bri Graves (North Central) and Fort Hays State
