The Madness Of 125 Continues! #29 Diego Sotelo Defeats #1 Anthony Noto
The 125-pound weight class continues to be pure madness throughout the NCAA D1 wrestling 2023-24 season.
The 125-pound weight class continues to be pure madness throughout the NCAA D1 wrestling 2023-24 season. Harvard's #29 Diego Sotelo upset #1 Anthony Noto of Lock Haven at the Davison Duals Thursday afternoon.
Sotelo was 15-6 on the season coming into this dual, while Noto was 9-0 (not including his match at the NWCA All-Star Classic). Noto was 33-4 last season and placed fourth at the NCAA Championship, his second time qualifying for the national tournament. Sotelo also qualified for the 2023 NCAAs (his first) but went 0-2.
Originally from Plainfield, Illinois, Sotelo, a junior, placed at the Keystone Classic and Midlands Championships while falling one win away from making the podium at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas. His only losses on the season have been to Ryan Miller, #14 Ungar (2X), #8 Flynn, #6 Stanich, and #2 Ramos. Additionally, all his losses have been by three points or less except for one loss via pinfall.
Although #29 over #1 would typically be one of the biggest upsets of the year, 125 pounds in the 2023-24 season has been anything but typical.
We've still got half the season to go but to give you an idea of how crazy this weight class has been, below are just some of the upsets that we've witnessed throughout the season.
