IOC Declares Russian & Belarusian Wrestlers Eligible For The 2024 Olympics

On Friday, December 8 United World Wrestling announced that the International Olympic Committee will allow wrestlers from Russia and Belarus to compete at the 2024 Olympics as Individual Neutral Athletes (AIN).

In March of 2022, the IOC recommended Russia and Belarus be banned from all international competitions due to the invasion of Ukraine and the ongoing war. This decision resulted in wrestlers from Russia and Belarus missing the 2022 World Championships. However, in April of 2023, the IOC released new guidelines allowing for athletes from both countries to return to competition as "Individual Neutral Athletes." United World Wrestling followed these guidelines and Russian and Belarusian wrestlers competed at the 2023 World Championships as "AIN" athletes.

The announcement from UWW confirms wrestlers from Russia and Belarus will compete at the 2024 Paris Olympics under the AIN covering. The flags and anthems of these respective countries will be prohibited at the Olympics and all AIN Olympians will likely be screened by an independent panel to approve their eligibility.
