The 2023-2024 Iowa State Wrestling season will begin in Northeast Ohio as the Cyclones travel to Massillon for a dual meet against Cleveland State. The No. 11-ranked team in FloWrestling’s preseason rankings have a connection to Perry High School, the host of the dual. 

It’s David Carr’s alma mater. 

Carr leads the Cyclones as the No.3-ranked Pound-For-Pound wrestler in the nation according to FloWrestling. The Iowa State Male Athlete of the Year, four-time All-American and four-time Big 12 champion has deserved a bit of a homecoming starting his fifth season for ISU. 

The 2021 NCAA champion at 157-pounds moved to 165 last season and was the NCAA runner-up. 

Carr leads the Cyclones’ lofty expectations as they aim for their 9th NCAA Team Championship and their first conference title since 2009. 

While Carr is the Iowa State headliner, the team is well-stocked. Casey Swiderski (No. 14 at 149-pounds), Jason Kraisser (No. 13 at 157) and Yonger Bastida (No. 9 at 285) round out the roster. 

After a trip to Ohio, the Cyclones' November schedule gets busy and difficult. Iowa State will face Wisconsin on Nov. 19 and rival Iowa on Nov. 26 in a pair of dual meets. 

Then ISU will fly west for the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational from Dec. 1-2. The Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational is streaming live on FloWrestling and the FloSports app. 

Iowa State will also head to Nashville on Dec. 18 for the Collegiate Duals that also feature Cornell, Pittsburgh and Little Rock.

When Is the 2024 Big 12 Wrestling Tournament? 

The Big 12 Wrestling Championships are at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The BOK Center hosted the 2023 NCAA National Championships. The BOK Center also hosted the Big 12 Championships in 2023. 

What College Wrestling Teams Are In the Big 12?

The Big 12 wrestling members are different from other sports. 

For example, despite being in the Southeastern Conference for other sports, Missouri never left the Big 12 for wrestling. The SEC doesn’t have wrestling as a sport. 

It hasn't been determined if Oklahoma, which is leaving the Big 12 in other sports after the 2023-2024 seasons, will remain in the conference for wrestling.
