J'den Cox Withdraws From Final X Due To Injury

In shocking news, J’den Cox has withdrawn from Final X due to injury. Although Cox weighed in on Saturday at 97kg, he was later seen on crutches just a few hours before the start of the event. Then, he failed to take the mat during round 1 of Final X forfeiting to Kyle Snyder. We don't yet have all the details on the injury but will update this article as we receive more information.

Kyle Snyder will automatically receive the 97 kg spot and Cox will not be eligible for a delayed wrestle-off. According to Team USA’s selection criteria, only returning world medalists sitting out to Final X are eligible for a delayed wrestle-off because of injury. Because Cox medaled at 92kg last year, he does not qualify for a delayed wrestle-off at 97kg.

Prior to his withdrawal, J’den Cox and Kyle Snyder were set to meet at 97kg in what was considered by many to be the most anticipated match of the night. Both Cox and Snyder are among the most credentialed wrestlers in American history. J’den Cox is a two-time world champion, 2016 Olympic bronze medalist, world silver medalist, and two-time world bronze medalist. Kyle Snyder is an Olympic champion (2016), 3-time world champion, Olympic silver medalist (2020), 2-time world silver medalist, and world bronze medalist. On top of their accolades, the two have a rivalry dating back 10 years - we dove deep into that rivalry in this article. Now, it looks as though wrestling fans will have to wait until the 2024 Olympic Trials to see J'den Cox and Kyle Snyder wrestle.
