U23 Women's World Team (Almost) Set

The World Team Trials Challenge tournament solidified nine of 10 women's U23 World team spots.

U23 Women's World Team (Almost) Set

The recent World Team Trials Challenge tournament decided four remaining Final X spots, but it also provided clarity on who will represent the United States at the U23 World Championships in Tampere, Finland on October 23-29. U23 National champions are not guaranteed a spot. 

The U23 World team was determined by Final X participants in all but one weight. 

The highest age-eligible wrestler on the U.S. Senior National team (top three) at each weight qualifies for the U23 World Championships. The U23 National champion gets the spot if no wrestler in the top three is age-eligible.

Below is a breakdown of who made the U23 World team and who won the U23 Nationals.

50 Kilograms

U23 World team: Audrey Jimenez
U23 National champion: Emily Shilson

Jimenez made the U23 team since she reached Final X and her Final X opponent (Sarah Hildedrandt) is not U23 eligible. 

53 Kilograms

U23 World team: Katie Gomez
U23 National champion: Felicity Taylor

Gomez made the U23 team since she reached Final X and her Final X opponent (Dom Parrish) is not U23 eligible. 

55 kilograms: 

U23 World team: Alisha Howk
U23 National champion: Alisha Howk

Howk made the U23 team since she reached Final X and her Final X opponent (Jacarra Winchester is not U23 eligible. 

57 kilograms

U23 World team: Xochitl Mota-Pettis
U23 National champion:  Montana DeLawder

Mota-Pettis won U23 Nationals at 59 kg but made the U23 World team since she reached Final X at 57 kg and her Final X opponent (Helen Maroulis) is not U23 eligible. 

59 kilograms

U23 World team: Michaela Beck
U23 National champion: Xochitl Mota-Pettis

Beck made the U23 team since she reached Final X and her Final X opponent (Jennifer Page) is not U23 eligible. 

62 kilograms

U23 World team: Adaugo Nwachukwu
U23 National champion: Adaugo Nwachukwu

Nwachukwu made the U23 team since she reached Final X and her opponent (Kayla Miracle) is not U23 eligible. 

65 kilograms

U23 World team: Macey Kilty
U23 National champion: Macey Kilty

Kilty made the U23 team since she reached Final X and her opponent (Mallory Velte) is not U23 eligible. 

68 kilograms

U23 World team: Katerina Lange
U23 National champion: Katerina Lange

Lange made the U23 team since there are no age-eligible wrestlers on the Senior National team.

72 kilograms

U23 World team: Amit Elor or Joye Levendusky
U23 National champion: Kaylynn Albrecht

The winner of the Final X match between Amit Elor and Joye Levendusky will determine the U23 representative since both are U23 eligible. 

76 kilograms

U23 World team: Kennedy Blades
U23 National champion: Ashley Lekas

Blades make the U23 team since she reached Final X and her opponent (Adeline Gray) is not U23 eligible.
