Chase Saldate's Wrist Roll Series | Technique Tuesday

null

In this week's Technique Tuesday, Michigan State standout Chase Saldate breaks down three attacks off a single wrist roll — all built on one idea: don't force the finish; ride your opponent's momentum into it.

From the same step-and-pull setup, Saldate opens three different exits. The duck under is his "disappearing move" for when the opponent is falling forward — instead of dropping to the ankle, he brings the arm up, drops to his right knee, and turns his shoulders to kill any underhook defense, then treats it as an "alert position" and drives hip-to-hip to bring him down. The low single is the same side-step done faster: drop level straight into a squat, not a bend, forearm down and knee to the toe, staying on the toe for mobility and using a planted hand as a gauge so the head never goes too deep into a scramble. And the fireman's carry is the explosive freestyle finish — arm above the elbow, pull it across, step and bring the head under the armpit, then pop him through with a big upright chest and hips tucked under, letting the momentum throw for you without ever grabbing the leg.
