Class of 2020 High School Big Board

Top 100 Seniors

The Senior Big Board was last updated just after the Christmas tournaments. Most of the big movers with breakout senior seasons happened back at the beginning of the year. #1 Braxton Amos (WV) has done nothing, but win and take on everyone in front of him. That included an accepted invitation to take on #6 Hunter Catka (PA) at the Pittsburgh Wrestling Classic creating a #1 vs #1 showdown. Unfortunately, it fell victim to the Covid-19 virus just like many other great matches in March and April.

#9 Chase Saldate (CA) climbed into the top ten with a 5Counties title over #53 Sonny Santiago (CA) and a dominant California state championship performance. Saldate secured five falls and a 14-0 major decision en route to the 152lb championship. That caps a year for Saldate where he won titles at Super32, Reno, Doc B, 5Counties, and the California state tournament.

#7 Robbie Howard (NJ) might look out of place when you see that he is ranked higher on the Big Board than he is at his weight class. Weight class rankings are more predicated on just looking at the wins and losses. The Big Board leaves room for evaluation of talent and forgiving some losses due to circumstances. Howard came up big and won a monster bracket at the New Jersey state tournament. His World Team experience shows he has the goods, he just didn’t perform up to standard in certain spots this season.

#44 Cade Lautt (KS) was the biggest mover with his championship performance in Kansas. His title bout was a 3-1 victory over top ten junior Kyle Haas (KS). Lautt moved the whole way up from the last man on the board spot of 100.

#49 Gabe Christenson (IA) and #61 Ryan Miller (NJ) were the highest ranked wrestlers to come from outside the top 100. Christenson won the 3A Iowa title at 195lbs, while Miller finished 2nd at the National Prep tournament at 120lbs.
