There’s nothing like a rematch, and Gabriella Gomez and Valarie Solorio certainly have history. The two met in the best-of-three finals at the 2022 U17 Nationals in Forth Worth, Texas, on May 8 and in the 2021 16U National finals in Fargo on July 18. 

Solorio won the 16U title with a 6-3 win over Gomez with Gomez returning the favor by making the U17 World team in straight matches over Solorio: 8-3 and 4-1. Gomez went on to win the 46-kg silver medal at the U17 World Championships in July.

The two will face off at 100 pounds during FloWrestling’s Who’s Number One on September 9 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. 

Gomez is from Carol Stream, Illinois, and is entering her sophomore year at Glenbard North High School. She is also a U15 Girls National runner-up, and a UWW U17 All-American.

Solorio hails from Panama City Beach, Florida, and is entering her junior year at Mosely High School. This is her second appearance at Who’s Number One after facing Erica Pastoriza last year at 94 pounds. Solorio placed third at 2021 Super 32 and won the inaugural Florida girls’ state championship earlier this year.
