In a huge shake-up, Cody Chittum, one of the best pound-for-pound high school wrestlers in the country, has flipped his commitment from Minnesota to Iowa. In June of 2021, Chittum became one of the first commits in the class of 2023 to announce his college commitment. Since then, Chittum continued to carefully weigh all of his options and came to the conclusion that this would be what is best for him.

Chittum also made the decision to graduate from high school this summer. He will be moving from his home in Tennessee to Iowa City to train. This gives him the option to grey shirt a year, take a traditional redshirt, or compete in the starting lineup for the Hawkeyes. With Max Murin coming back for the 2022-2023 season, it seems unlikely Chittum will be in the starting lineup this year. 

Chittum has held the top spot on the class of 2023 big board since December of 2020. He's won Who's Number One, Super 32, and most recently dominated his way to a junior freestyle Fargo title. In June while competing at 70 kg (154.3 lbs) Chittum split matches with current Hawkeye Caleb Rathjen. At Who's Number One 2020, Chittum defeated former Hawkeye Wyatt Henson. 

The Tennessee native is known for his hard wrestling style which most believe will transition perfectly to the college level. Some would even call it "Iowa style".
