Penn State secured a commitment from one of the top high school prospects in Pennsylvania on Saturday when U17 World Team member Tyler Kasak announced his intention to join the Nittany Lions.

All recent signs indicated that Penn State was the clear frontrunner for the junior from Bethlehem Catholic. Decked out in a singlet with Penn State recruit Levi Haines’ name on the back and with former Nittany Lion great David Taylor in his corner, Kasak defeated Joel Adams in a tightly contested three-match 65-kilogram series to win the U17 World Team Trials in Las Vegas.

That performance, coupled with a superb junior season, elevated Kasak to the #25 spot on the Class of 2023 Big Board. Kasak captured titles this past season at the Ironman, Beast of the East and Escape the Rock before placing third at the Pennsylvania state tournament.

Kasak is the third wrestler on the 2023 Big Board to commit to the Nittany Lions, joining #8 Josh Barr and #16 Braeden Davis. His commitment leaves just two uncommitted top 25 prospects — #7 Jim Mullen and #11 Marc-Anthony McGowan.
