Yianni's Dominance & Missouri - OK State Headline Week 14 NCAA Round-Up
The biggest stories in the past week of NCAA D1 college wrestling.

The past week of college wrestling was headlined by some of the best dual meets of the season and incredible top 5 individual matchups. Take a look below at a breakdown of the biggest stories in college wrestling from the past week.
Glory And Vito Put On A Show
In the best match of the weekend, #3 Pat Glory took out #2 Vito Arujau in a wild, 11-9 match. From the opening whistle, both wrestlers held nothing back creating an action-packed first period. Glory took a 6-4 lead into the second on two takedowns, an escape, and a penalty point from an illegal mat return. Arujau’s only points in the first came from two reversals.
In the second period, Arujau responded with two quick takedowns to tie the match at 8 with just over a minute to go in the period. Glory responded with an escape but the match pace slowed noticeably after the blazing pace set in the first four minutes of the match. At 9-8 in the third, Aurjau chose neutral rather than going under Glory. It ultimately worked out in Glory’s favor as he was able to secure the match-winning takedown quick in the period and used strong defense to close out the bout. While Glory won the bout in the dual, Arujau will likely get his opportunity for revenge in a few weeks at the EIWA Conference Tournament.

Missouri's Wild Dual Win Over Oklahoma State
In a roller-coaster dual from start to finish, the #8 Missouri Tigers defeated the #9 Oklahoma State Cowboys on Sunday, 21-20. In a dual that started at 141, Oklahoma State gained momentum early with a win by Carter Young at 141, #18 Kaden Gfeller pinning #21 Josh Edmond at 149, and Wyatt Sheets winning a close decision at 157. Missouri’s #3 Keegan O’Toole got the Tigers back on track with a close, 3-2 victory over #8 Travis Wittlake. Then at 174, Peyton Mocco’s back-up, Sean Harman, secured the upset win over #9 Dustin Plott, 5-4.
After a win by Oklahoma State’s Dakota Geer at 184, the Tigers rattled off three straight wins from Rocky Elam (197), Zach Elam, and Noah Surtin (125). Pins by Elam and Surtin were ultimately the difference maker and put the dual out of reach. Missouri will close out their season with duals against #17 Arizona State (Feb 12) and #7 Iowa State (Feb. 16).

Levi Haines Wins Edinboro Open
Penn State commit, Levi Haines chose to bypass his senior season in order to better prepare for his freshman year in State College. It appears that decision is paying off as Haines took home the 157-pound title at the Edinboro open over the weekend. Haine’s went 5-0, had three falls, and most notably defeated Ohio State freshman Paddy Gallagher in the semi-finals, 8-3. With Haines currently ranked #7 in our Class of 2022 High School Big Board - expectations are already high for his collegiate career and his performance over the weekend only raises those hopes for the Nittany Lions.

Iowa's Seniors With Strong Send-Off - Marinelli Takes Out Hamiti
Iowa hosted their last home dual of the year over the weened against the Wisconsin Badgers and won in dominant fashion, 29-6. Along with the win, 5 of Iowa’s seniors had a strong showing in their final dual at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Austin DeSanto, Jaydin Eierman, Kaleb Young, Alex Marinelli, and Michael Kemerer all said farewell to their home crowd with victories against the Bagers.
The most notable victory of that bunch was Alex Marinelli’s 8-5 decision over DJ Hamiti. The Wisconsin freshman was 17-0 entering the bout with 15 of his wins coming by bonus points. In their match on Saturday, Marinelli took control of the match with a takedown in the both the first and second periods to hold a 4-3 lead entering the third. The action picked up in the third when Marinelli and Hamiti traded reversals before Marinelli escaped to extend his lead to 7-5 with 50 seconds remaining in the match. That's how the match would end along with Marinelli gaining another point due to riding time.

Penn And Army Upset Lehigh
#10 Lehigh has ranked wins this season over #21 Oregon State, #15 Pittsburgh, #23 Central Michigan, and #11 Cornell. However it was a rough weekend for the Mountain Hawks as they dropped duals to both Penn and Army over the weekend. The difference for Penn over Lehigh was their ability to win the close matches. Of the Quakers 8 wins, 5 were by 2 points or less with 4 being by only 1 point. While Lehigh was missing Manzona Bryant and Josh Humphreys against Army, the Black Knights secured upsets by Ben Pasiuk (174) and Corey Shie (141) to propel them to victory.
