The Cy-Hawk Dual is going down on Sunday, December 5th at 7 pm (ET). 14 of the 20 wrestlers are ranked and there should be 5 head-to-head ranked matches. Take a look below at the projected lineups and a breakdown of each match in the dual.

Projected Lineups:

125: Jesse Ybarra (Iowa) vs #22 Kysen Terukina (Iowa State)

133: #3 Austin DeSanto (Iowa) vs Ramazan Attasauov (Iowa State)

141: #2 Jaydin Eierman (Iowa) vs #22 Zach Redding/Ian Parker(Iowa State)

149: Colbe Siebrecht vs Ian Parker/Jarrett Degen (Iowa State)

157: #8 Kaleb Young (Iowa) vs #1 David Carr (Iowa State)

165: #1 Alex Marinelli (Iowa) vs Austin Kraisser/Isaac Judge/Grant Stotts (Iowa State)

174: #2 Michael Kemerer/Nelson Brands (Iowa) vs Joel Devine/Julien Broderson (Iowa State)

184: HM Myles Wilson/Abe Assad (Iowa) vs #10 Marcus Coleman (Iowa State)

197: #3 Jacob Warner/Zach Glazier (Iowa) vs HM Yonger Bastida (Iowa State)

285: #5 Tony Cassioppi (Iowa) vs HM Sam Schuyler (Iowa State)

125: Jesse Ybarra (Iowa) vs #22 Kysen Terukina (Iowa State)

Iowa released the potential line-ups for the dual and sadly Spencer Lee was not on the projected starters sheet. That leaves Jesse Ybarra to man the 125 spot for the Hawkeyes and Ybarra should be considered an underdog against Terukina. Freshman Terukina was a national qualifier last year for the Cyclones and is currently 9-0 on the season. Ybarra should make this a match but I expect Terukina to win a close decision.

Prediction: Terukina by decision - Iowa 0, Iowa State 3

Terukina’s win over Liam Cronin from the 2021 Daktronics Open:

133: #3 Austin DeSanto (Iowa) vs Ramazan Attasauov (Iowa State)

Though DeSanto is considered a big favorite, this match-up is one of the most fascinating of the dual. Attasauov hasn’t had a signature folkstyle win yet but it should be noted that he has wins over All-Americans Pat Glory and Rayvon Foley in freestyle. I expect DeSanto to win handily but this is a match Iowa State needs to swing the dual in their favor.

Prediction: DeSanto by tech fall - Iowa 5, Iowa State 3

Attasauov’s win over Pat Glory from the 2020 U23 Nationals:

null

141: #2 Jaydin Eierman (Iowa) vs #22 Zach Redding/Ian Parker(Iowa State)

Ian Parker hasn’t wrestled a match yet but was listed as a probable at both 141 and 149. I’m operating under the assumption that Parker does not wrestle this dual and it’s Zach Redding taking the mat against Jaydin Eierman. If that’s the case, expect Eierman to win in dominant fashion and score bonus points for the Hawkeyes.

Prediction: Eierman by pin - Iowa 11, Iowa State 3

149: Cobe Siebrecht vs #14 Ian Parker/Jarrett Degen (Iowa State)

Iowa only listed Cobe Siebrecht in their probable lineups and he’ll be a major underdog against Ian Parker or Jarrett Degen. While Siebrecht has looked good this year, he is coming off a major decision loss to Army’s PJ Ogunsanya. Degen or Parker should win in a similar fashion and could pick up bonus points against Siebrecht.

Prediction: Degen by major decision - Iowa 11, Iowa State 7

157: #8 Kaleb Young (Iowa) vs #1 David Carr (Iowa State)

157 is the premier match of the dual with defending national champion David Carr taking on All-American Kaleb Young. Carr came out on top in their only past meeting - a 6-1 decision win in the 2019 Iowa vs Iowa State dual. Expect this match to materialize in a similar way as their match 2 years ago with Carr winning the takedown battle and taking a comfortable decision.

Prediction: Carr by decision - Iowa 11, Iowa State 10

David Carr’s win over Kaleb Young from the 2019 Cy-Hawk Dual:

null

165: #1 Alex Marinelli (Iowa) vs Austin Kraisser/Isaac Judge/Grant Stotts (Iowa State)

Iowa State has 3 different probables listed at 165 but it shouldn’t matter against Alex Marinelli. The two-time All-American is 6-0 on the year and already has 2 tech falls and 2 falls. Marinelli should be able to put up bonus points in this match and will likely add another fall or tech to his record.

Prediction: Marinelli by tech fall - Iowa 16, Iowa State 10

174: #2 Michael Kemerer/Nelson Brands (Iowa) vs Joel Devine/Julien Broderson (Iowa State)

Will this be the first time we see Michael Kemerer on the mat this season? Last week Kemerer was not listed as a probably but both he and Nelson Brands are listed for this dual against Iowa State. It shouldn’t matter for the Hawkeyes but I’m assuming Kemerer does take the mat in Ames and come away with a bonus-point win against either Joel Devine or Julien Broderson.

Prediction: Kemerer by major decision - Iowa 20, Iowa State 10

184: HM Myles Wilson/Abe Assad (Iowa) vs #10 Marcus Coleman (Iowa State)

This is another toss-up match that Iowa State absolutely needs to win in order to have a chance at taking this dual. Assad and Coleman have never wrestled and Assad has yet to wrestle in a dual for Iowa at 184.

Wilson and Coleman have a fairly rich history and have wrestled both in college and high school. Wilson had to injury default to Coleman in their only collegiate match after he was ahead 4-3 at the end of the first period. Coleman seems to be coming into his own this season at 174 and even took out All-American Taylor Venz at the Daktronics Open. Because of that, I give a slight edge to Coleman here.

Prediction: Coleman by decision - Iowa 20, Iowa State 13

197: #3 Jacob Warner/Zach Glazier (Iowa) vs HM Yonger Bastida (Iowa State)

If Jacob Warner takes the mat against Yonger Bastida, I expect a dominant decision for the Hawkeyes. However, we haven’t seen Warner since the Luther Open (November 13), so I expect Glazier to compete against Bastida. In that case, Bastida should be considered the favorite over Glazier and get a much-needed win for the Cyclones.

Prediction: Bastida by decision - Iowa 20, Iowa State 16

285: #5 Tony Cassioppi (Iowa) vs HM Sam Schuyler (Iowa State)

While Schuyler was a national qualifier last year it will be a tall task for him to compete with Tony Cassioppi. The two have never met in college and Cassioppi should be favored to come away with a bonus-point win for the Hawkeyes.

It's always fun to watch Tony Cassioppi win a world title:

Prediction: Cassioppi by major decision - Iowa 24, Iowa State 16

The Hawkeyes are huge favorites in this dual but if they don’t wrestle their best lineup, there is a path to victory for the Cyclones. Iowa State could realistically at 125, 149, 184, and 197 but need to limit bonus points and need a major upset. You can watch this dual live on ESPN Plus.
