Iowa has added yet another blue-chip prospect on its red-hot recruiting weekend.

Hours after landing top-ranked lightweight Nate Jesuroga, the Hawkeyes struck again and locked up a commitment from one of the nation’s top middleweights.

Cadet World Team Trials runner-up and Fargo finalist Aiden Riggins gave his pledge to the Hawkeyes on Saturday night, according to HawkCentral.com, becoming the third top in-state prospect to commit to Tom Brands and company in the last month.

Riggins had taken recent trips to Michigan, Purdue and South Dakota State and attracted interest from several other Power Five conference programs.

He’s currently ranked fourth nationally at 160 pounds. He’s had a terrific 2021 to this point, going undefeated as a junior and completing his run to an Iowa state title with a win against fellow Fargo finalist Caleb Rathjen. He followed that up with a strong showing at the Cadet World Team Trials, where he reached the finals and went to a decisive bout in the best-of-three final series against top-ranked Levi Haines.

Riggins was one of the standout performers this summer the Iowa squad that captured the freestyle title at USA Wrestling’s Junior National Duals. At least five of the key figures on that team — current Hawkeyes Drake Ayala and Rathjen and commits Ben Kueter, Jesuroga and Riggins — will be reunited in Iowa City.
