Stevan Micic is coming back to compete for Michigan this season. In a somewhat surprising decision, the 8th-year senior announced his decision via Instagram.

Now 25 years old, Micic spent his true freshman year at Northwestern before transferring to Michigan. After taking another redshirt year in 2015-2016, Micic started at 133 lbs for the Wolverines where he went 4th, 2nd, and 3rd for the Wolverines at 133 lbs. Coming so close, but never winning an NCAA title was one of the main factors in his decision.

“Being an NCAA champion is something I have one last shot of doing, and I’m not going to leave any stones unturned.”

The main obstacles in Micic’s path to an NCAA title this year at 133 lbs will be returning champion Roman Bravo-Young, 2X finalist Daton Fix, multiple-time AA Austin Desanto, and possibly Olympic Trials finalist Vito Arujau if he moves up in weight.

For the past two years, Micic has focused on his senior-level freestyle career while representing Serbia. He has done quite well, winning a silver medal at the 2019 Euro Games and two bronzes at the Euro Championships. He also finished fifth at the 2019 World Championships.

Especially if Coach Bormet and co can get Myles Amine and Logan Massa to follow suit, they will have an impressive team for the NCAA Championships which will be held in Detroit. Wolverine fans have a lot to be excited about!
