Greco Team Race Concluded - Russia Holds On To Gold

Greco-Roman wrestling has wrapped up at the Olympics and the team standings are completed. Though the Olympics doesn’t officially crown a “team champ”, we’ve been tracking the scores and have determined the Greco-Roman Champions of the Tokyo Olympics. Read below to see how the countries finished.

Russia Wins The Greco Crown

With one gold medalist and two winning bronze, the Russian Olympic Committee won the team championship in Greco-Roman by 11 points over 2nd place Iran. Musa Evloev, Russia’s 97kg wrestler, was Russia’s lone champ while Sergey Emelin (60kg) and Sergei Semenov (130kg) secured bronze. While Russia won the team race, Cuba was the only country with multiple champs with Mijain Lopez (130kg) and Luis Orta (60kg). Take a look at how the rest of the top 10 countries finished:

Russia73
Iran62
Cuba56
Hungary55
Ukraine55
Armenia40
Germany36
Japan35
Georgia34
Egypt33

Notably, USA did not finish in the top 10 and only earned points from 2 wrestlers - Alejandro Sancho (67kg) and G’Angelo Hancock (97kg). Hancock finished in 7th place based on his opening round win and Sancho finished in 10th on the points he scored in defeat. That effort gave USA 10 total team points placing them in a tie for 19th in team scoring.
