Medal Matches Starting 7:15AM ET each day
Aryan Tsyutrin vs Musa Mekhtikhanov - 57kg
Musa Mekhtikhanov upset Ramiz Gamzatov 10-7 in the semis to reach the finals. Mekhtikhanov will now face off against veteran Aryan Tsyutrin. Tsyutrin is a former Russian and is now representing Belarus. His best finish up to this point on the international scene was his bronze medal at the 2020 Yarygin. Tsyutrin also has a win over Joe Colon back in 2019 (13-3 tech fall)
Gold Prediction - Musa Mekhtikhanov
Abasgadzhi Magomedov vs Rustam Karakhanov - 61kg
Abasgadzhi Magomedov is the best 61kg wrestler in Russia and might be the best in the world. Magomedov has won the last 2 Russian Nationals at 61kg and has past wins over world champion Yowlys Bonne Rodrigues and this years Olympians Vazgen Tevanyan (ARM), Thomas Gilman (USA), Arsen Harutyunyan (ARM), and Bekhbayar Erdenbat (MGL).
Magomedov’s opponent, Rustam Karakhanov, does not have near the credentials as Magomedov. In fact, this finish at The Yarygin will be Karakhanov’s best finish internationally. Prior to this tournament, Karakhanov took 5th at the 2021 Russian nationals and lost to Magomedov there - 12-2.
Gold Prediction - Abasgadzhi Magomedov
Viktor Rassadin vs Kurban Shiraev - 70kg
The match between Rassadin and Shiraev is the premier finals match of the first day at the Yarygin and could be the best finals match of the tournament. Shiraev made the finals by defeating 2019 70kg World Champion, David Baev 8-7. Prior to that match, Baev had controlled the series and defeated Shiraev two other times - 8-0 at 2020 Russian Nationals and 6-4 at a Russian pro tournament in January 2020. Shiraev has now put himself in contention to represent Russia at 2021 Worlds at 70kg.
Shiraev will have to get by seasoned veteran, Viktor Rassadin, to cement himself as the best in Russia at 70kg. Rassadin has placed at The Yarygin and Russian Nationals multiple times since 2013 and notably pinned Frank Molinaro in 2019. Rassadin is looking for revenge against Shiraev - the two wrestled 3 years ago and Shiraev won by fall over Rassadin (the match was 4-3 at the time)
Gold Prediction - Kurban Shiraev
