Cadet World Teamer Gavin Nelson showed the wrestling world his power at the Cadet World Team Trials. Now he's decided where he'll train and compete at the next level. The Simley, Minnesota native is staying close to home to become a Minnesota Golden Gopher. He announced his decision on Instagram.

Nelson is currently the #4 recruit in the class of 2023. His commitment to Minnesota is remarkable by itself, but it's even more impressive considering the recent commitment of Cody Chittum, the top recruit in the class of 2023. The Chittum, Nelson combo puts the Gophers in the early running for the top recruiting class in 2023 alongside Illinois who has received commitments from #2 Christian Carroll and #21 Kannon Webster. This is on the heels of the Gophers hauling in the #7 ranked class in 2021.

Gavin Nelson's sophomore year was incredible. He was a Super 32 finalist and a Minnesota state champion, but his most impressive performance came at the 2021 Cadet World Team Trials. He dominated a tough field and teched #4 PJ Casale in two straight matches.

The next big stop for Nelson is the Cadet World Championships in Budapest, Hungary. Nelson will look to bring home hardware for Team USA in late July. Gopher fans will certainly want to tune in.
