In a surprising and fortunate turn of events, Stanford has decided to reverse the decision to cut all 11 varsity sports programs which included the wrestling program.

San Francisco Chronicle reporter Ann Killion broke the news on Twitter.

The decision to reinstate the programs came after public backlash, threats to lose donor money, and even two lawsuits filed against the university in federal court, brought by athletes on the targeted teams.

Many of Stanford's wrestlers, such as 2021 NCAA champion Shane Griffith have entered the transfer portal, but none have officially transferred anywhere yet. Unfortunately for Cardinal fans, former head wrestling coach Jason Borrelli signed a contract to become the head wrestling coach at American University in April. It is unclear exactly what's next for Stanford wrestling at this point.
