We’ve already gone through all the D1 commits that will be at the PIAA state tournament, but now here are the best wrestlers that still have yet to commit to a college. While there are many talented freshmen and sophomores who will eventually end up wrestling in college, this list only includes juniors and seniors who are eligible to commit.

AAA 285: Isaiah Vance, SR (Hempfield)

  • #10 at 285

  • #44 on the Senior Big Board

  • 2021 Powerade champion

  • 2020 state finalist

  • A state finalist a year ago, Isaiah Vance’s only losses were to Coltin Deery and Hunter Catka. Vance avenged the Deery loss in January of this year and Catka is now an NCAA qualifier. After beating #12 and Iowa State commit Nate Schon at super regionals, Vance is the favorite to win the title. His biggest hurdle could be Greensburg Salem’s William McChesney who handed him his only loss of the year. To be fair, however, Vance does have four wins over McChesney this season.

*After publishing this article it has been brought to my attention that Isaiah Vance has verbally committed to Army West Point.

Watch Isaiah Vance take out 2019 state champion Nate Schon at Super Regionals below.

AA 145: Levi Haines, JR (Biglerville)

  • #10 at 145

  • #51 on Junior Big Board

  • 2X state finalist

  • Two trips to Hershey and two runner-up finishes for Levi so far, but he’s a different animal this season. Haines hasn’t just been winning but dominating. 23 of Haines’ 24 wins have come by bonus points including 17 pins.

AA 215: Dayton Pitzer, JR (Mt. Pleasant)

  • #18 at 220

  • #45 on Junior Big Board

  • 2019 state champ

  • 2021 Powerade finalist

  • The only returning state champion on this list, Pitzer actually won a title his freshman year in 2019. Unfortunately, he had to sit out last year due to injury. The time off hasn’t seemed to hurt, however, as Pitzer is 33-2 with 30 pins. Dayton’s two losses have come to #1 in the country Nick Feldman, who wrestles for National Prep school Malvern Prep.

Watch Dayton Pitzer win his 2019 PIAA state title below.

AAA 113: Jacob Van Dee, JR (Erie Cathedral Prep)

  • #100 on Junior Big Board

  • 2020 state finalist

  • Another returning state finalist. It will be even harder for Van Dee to make it back to the big stage this year. He’ll have to avenge a 7-3 loss to Kamdyn Williams from super regionals. This could set up a potential rematch of last year’s 106 final between Van Dee and #7 Vinny Kilkeary, which went into overtime.

AAA 138: Cole Homet, JR (Waynesburg)

  • 2X state place winner

  • 2021 Powerade champion

  • Already a two-time state placer, Cole Homet has really come into his own this season. The junior is 27-2 and won the prestigious Powerade tournament and defeated 2019 state finalist Finn Solomon at regionals.

Watch Cole Homet win the 2020 Powerade championship below.

AAA 172: Sammy Starr, SR (Kiski Area)

  • #17 at 170

  • From section 4th, to region DNP, to state DNP, to state medal, Sammy Starr has shown steady improvement throughout his career. He’ll be taking a 37-4 record with him to Hershey and his only losses this season have come to nationally ranked wrestlers.

AAA 132: Jude Swisher, JR (Bellefonte)

  • #18 at 132

  • 2020 state 4th place

  • Journeymen 3rd

  • Just a junior, Jude Swisher will already be bringing home his second state medal. He’s got wins over Pierson Manville and Kaemen Smith this season. He’ll have a tough semifinal against Dylan Chappell if both wrestlers win their first match.
