Now that all 330 seeds for 2021 NCAA Wrestling Championship have been published, we can take a look at their implications with regards the team race.
Remember these are based on the seeds. They are not predictions, nor do they suggest that there is no need to actually wrestle the tournament anymore. We're simply taking the scoring rubric we use to calculate the team tournament rankings and using it with the seeds rather than our rankings. If you don't like the results, you have the seeding committee to thank.
Below are the team scores based on the seeds, using only implied placement and advancement points, without factoring in any hypothetical bonus points.

Not quite as large a gap as in our Team Tournament Rankings but Iowa is still the heavy favorite. Breaking out the top 20 by weight class yields the following table.
Based on seeds, Iowa is projected to have four champs, eight All-Americans, and two bloodrounders. A lot is going to have to go wrong for the Hawkeyes for them to not win their first NCAA title since 2010.
Aaron Brooks is projected to secure an individual championship for Penn State for the 10th tournament in a row (every year since 2011, not including the canceled 2020 tournament). They have a lot of upside among their eight other qualifiers but they'll have to out perform their seeds by a wide margin to catch Iowa.
Likewise for the rest of the pack, although the hunt for a top four placement and a team trophy is looking like it will be a lot of fun. Can the ACC put two teams in the top four? Can Oklahoma State bounce back from a lackluster Big 12s?
Myriad storylines abound. Which is why we still definitely need to have their tournament! We're as excited as you are, can't wait for first whistle!
