Six Accept Bids To Represent Team USA At Pittsburgh Wrestling Classic

Six of the nation's top high school seniors, have accepted bids to wrestle for Team USA for the Pittsburgh Wrestling Classic.

A year after not being able to host the event due to COVID-19, the Pittsburgh Wrestling Classic is back and on pace to be as good as ever. Over the past week, "The Rose of Bowl of Wrestling" has announced that six of the top high school seniors have accepted invitations to represent Team USA on April 2 live on FloWrestling.

The group is lead by the top four ranked wrestlers in our pound-for-pound rankings

#1 Shayne Van Ness - Blair Academy, NJ - 138 - Committed to Penn State

#2 Paddy Gallagher - St. Edward, OH - 160 - Committed to Ohio State

#3 Alex Facundo - Davison, MI - 170 - Committed to Penn State

#4 Richard Figueroa - Selma, CA - 120 - Committed to Arizona State

Van Ness is a Super 32, Walsh Jesuit Ironman, and National Prep champion. Gallagher is an Ohio state champion and also won a Walsh Jesuit Ironman title as well. Alex Facundo is also a Super 32 champion, three-time Michigan State champion, and a two-time Cadet world bronze medalist. Finally, Figueroa also has Walsh Jesuit Ironman, Super 32, a three-time California state champion, and Cadet world silver medalist. All four wrestlers have also wrestled at and won at Who's #1 throughout their prep careers.

The group only got stronger today when it was announced that another member of the pound-for-pound rankings and a top-three ranked wrestler at his weight had joined Team USA's roster.

#3 (at weight) Chance Lamer - Crescent Valley, OR - 132 - Committed to Michigan

#1 (at weight), #18 (P4P) Victor Voinovich - Brecksville, OH - 152 - Committed to Oklahoma State

Lamer is a three-time Oregon state champion, a double Fargo finalist in 2017, and made a Cadet freestyle world team where he finished fifth. Voinovich is an Ohio state champion, Walsh Jesuit Ironman and Fargo finalist.

These outstanding wrestlers will showcase their talents by competing against Pennsylvania’s best in the always exciting Pennsylvania versus USA All-Star dual meet at the 47th Annual Pittsburgh Wrestling Classic.

FloWrestling began recording America’s premier high school all-star dual meet in 2011 when Mark Bader arrived on the scene with a video camera on his shoulder. This year will be the 9th consecutive year FloWrestling is broadcasting the event live.

The USA All-Star Team has not lost to the PA All-Stars in eight years, dating back to 2011, in Classic XXXVII, PA 27 vs. USA 18. Pennsylvania owns 17 victories to Team USA’s 28 team victories.
