The Court of Arbitration for Sport reduced Russia’s four-year ban from international sports competition to two years, but the country will still miss the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

The decision was announced Thursday morning. A panel held a four-day hearing last month to consider the Russian Anti-Doping Agency’s appeal of the WADA’s ban, which was handed down last December

The court ruling also means that Russia will be banned from the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing, and most major international competitions through 2022. This includes FIFA's World Cup, the Youth Olympic Games, Paralympics, and more.

While Russia isn't allowed to have a formal presence at these events, i.e. no name, flag, or anthem, athletes will still be allowed to compete under a neutral flag. They will most likely be identified as "Olympic athletes from Russia".

The court also upheld their decision to not allow Russian officials to sit on boards and committees related to international sports governance and Russia will not be allowed to host any major sporting events or apply hosting duties.

This two-year punishment is expected to go into effect this month and will run through 2022. Russia was scheduled to host the 2022 World Championships in Krasnoyarsk.

The panel also ordered Russia to pay $1.27 million to WADA in order to cover the organization’s investigative costs.

All-in-all this will most likely not affect the sport of wrestling too much other than no Russia singlets for the next two years.
