2021 Senior World Championships summary

In all three styles, any 2020 Tokyo Olympian who wins a medal at the Olympic Games in Tokyo in August 2021, will have the right to compete at the 2021 World Championships at the same weight class. The 2021 Olympic medalist must declare their intent to compete by August 15, 2021.

Any 2020 Tokyo Olympian who wrestled for a medal at the Olympic Games in Tokyo in August 2021, and stays at the Olympic weight class or moves to one adjacent category, will be placed in the semifinals at the 2021 World Team Trials at that weight class.

In all three styles, any athlete who qualified for the April 2021 U.S. Olympic Team Trials is also qualified to enter the 2021 World Team Trials. Each style has a slightly different set of qualifying events. All three styles will include the top five from the 2021 Senior U.S. Open, and the champion from the July 2021 Last Chance Qualifier in that specific style. The qualifying events include specific competitions in 2020 and 2021.

Included in all three styles are specific procedures to replace a 2021 World Team member who is incapacitated after the 2021 World Team Trials and before the 2021 Senior World Championships.

In all three styles, the champions at the 2021 U.S. Open at the four non-Olympic weight classes, will qualify for the 2021 Pan American Championships. If the U.S. Open champion does not choose to compete, the next highest placing athlete at the U.S. Open will be asked to go as the replacement, down to the third-place finisher from the U.S. Open.

If the spot is not filled following the approved procedures, or if a Pan American team member is incapacitated after the team has been confirmed and prior to the Pan American Championships, the National Coach will make a recommendation to the specific Sport Committee, which will determine the team member.
