Kyle Bratke already mentioned it in his article about why he believes Jack Mueller will win, but I'll reiterate. It's safe to say there won't be a shortage of points Saturday night in Austin when Jack Mueller and Roman Bravo-Young square off. Both are multiple times NCAA All-Americans, age group world team members, and both wrestlers mentioned in promo interviews how they believe it will be a high-scoring affair.

Opposite of Bratke, however, I am here today to tell you Roman Bravo-Young will beat Jack Mueller Saturday night. Here's why.

Dynamic Offense

Roman Bravo-Young wrestles one of the most exciting styles out there.

“Crazy.” - Roman Bravo-Young when asked to describe his wrestling style.

That was pulled from RBY's full 30-minute interview with David Bray, and he ain’t lying. And while RBY is highly credited for his folkstyle abilities, his freestyle abilities are often underrated.

I spot a crotch lock, single leg, alternative style head pinch, single leg/go behind, go behind, and gut wrench for a 10-1 first period tech. Yeah, I’d say RBY has a diverse set of ways to score.

Scrambling

It’s one of the many things that makes Penn State wrestlers so good, they wrestle through every position. We’ve all seen the crazy sequence between him and Sammy Alvarez, who will be taking on Vito Arujau right before RBY takes the stage against Mueller!

That wasn’t the only incredible scramble from that match.

Sammy really made Roman earn his points. At about the 4:20 mark, the two get into a lengthy dueling far ankle scramble with RBY coming out on top.

This is only one match. RBY is great at finding a way to grab his opponent's ankle when they are in on the shot, either by reaching or dive rolling under, and then methodically working his way to his own takedown or at least stalemate. Jack Mueller won’t get any easy takedowns Saturday night.

Game Planning

It’s no secret that Cael and co. are mastermind gameplaners. It’s one of the many things that makes them so good at getting their wrestlers to win when it counts. Read my RBY-Desanto breakdown from this past NCAA season to see the changes and game plan RBY was able to implement to go from losing to Desanto twice, including once by major, in 2019, to beating him twice in 2020.

Now think about when RBY and Cael have nothing else to think about or plan for? Their sole focus will be on how to beat Jack Mueller. That’s dangerous. If I’m able to tell you to watch out for Mueller’s slide by, single, and chest wrap, I think the Penn State coaching staff is able to as well. RBY will be able to combat Mueller’s best attacks and win this match.
