The art of the interview.

If I had to pick a guy who was gifted both athletically and eloquently, I’d have to go with Jordan Burroughs. As we all know, the man can lace‘em up and go toe-to-toe with anyone as well as give a great interview.

Burroughs isn’t the only one who has the gifts on and off the mat, but let’s be honest, when it comes to interviews the wrestling world has plenty of regurgitated sayings.

Now, before we take a look at some of the biggest cliché sayings we’ve heard year after year, we have to give a nod to some of the most memorable interview moments.

Cael Sanderson: You got a plan…

Kyven Gadson: I just want some ice cream

Sammy Brooks: Fluffed and feathered

Ok, we’ve had some fun with some classic moments, but let’s look at the top clichés we get fed.

5. Thank God…

Having faith throughout a wrestling season is probably the #1 thing that gets every wrestler through a “Bad Cut” during the year. But you can almost guarantee that the man upstairs will be thanked “first and foremost.”

4. Got to my offense/ got to my ties

This one explains itself, but we get it plenty of times. It’s just another way of saying that you dictated the pace of the match and did what you wanted to get the win.

3. I need to open up more

After decimating the competition, it’s always fun to hear from one of the most dominant competitors that they could have opened up more and driven their opponents deeper into the ground.

2. I still have a lot to improve on

This one goes hand-in-hand with #3 but still deserves it’s only part of this list. Every wrestler can give you one thing they did well and about a million that they did wrong. It’s part of the humble robot-esque personas that they possess.

1. Wrestle one match at a time…

This is probably at the top of my list of things you know you’ll hear from someone who just won a tournament. Wrestles love reminding us that they can’t wrestle more than one opponent at a time as if we did just watch them literally do that. But in all seriousness, this is the one that probably gets the most play.
