Four-time California state champ Jesse Vasquez announced on Instagram live that he's committing to Arizona State

The last major domino of the senior class has fallen. Jesse Vasquez finally made his college commitment today and will wrestle for Arizona State.
Unlike the vast majority of his peers who announced their verbal as juniors or even sophomores, Vasquez showed no interest in making his choice early on. Aside from the guys who had signed to Old Dominion, he's the only person on the Big Board who had yet to choose his future school.
At the end of February, Vasquez became just the fourth boys wrestler to win four state titles in single class California. He began his career for St. John Bosco, then went to Santiago as a sophomore before finishing his career at Excelsior Charter the past two years.
Vasquez had made social media posts about several of his potential suitors, including Duke, Princeton, Michigan, Iowa, Cornell, and Ohio State in chronological order on his Instagram page. Penn State was also in the mix, but ultimately it came down to ASU and the Hawkeyes.
When the final ranking came out for the 2020 Big Board, he finished up #21 in his grade, however, he had been as high as #3 during his high school career. He twice made the finals of Super 32, placed two times in Akron and once at the Walsh Ironman.
On the next level Vasquez projects as a 149 or 157, though the Sun Devils currently have Jacori Teemer at 157. He wound up ranked ninth at 145 pounds in our final weight class rankings of the year.

Vasquez made the announcement on Instagram live and came just days after the team hired Mark Perry as an assistant coach. Perry will take on the role vacated by Jamill Kelly, and Frank Molinaro will be replacing Chris Pendleton in Tempe. Molinaro took the job on April 9.
