Arizona State Suspends Zahid Valencia Over Failed Drug Test
Arizona State announced today that two-time NCAA champion Zahid Valencia is suspended indefinitely due to a failed drug test.
Two-time NCAA champion Zahid Valencia has been suspended by the Arizona State Athletic Department for a failed drug test. According to azcentral.com, The Arizona State athletic department released the following statement: "Zahid Valencia has been suspended indefinitely from the ASU men's wrestling team."
Also according to Jeff Metcalfe of azcentral.com, Valencia failed the test for a recreational drug and not a performance-enhancing drug.
Valencia is currently 20-0 on the year and arguably the leader in the Hodge Trophy race picking up bonus point wins in 85 percent of matches. With just two weeks before conference championship weekend, it's unclear at this time what this means for Valencia's postseason eligibility and his ability to compete at the 2020 Olympic Trials in State College, Pennsylvania on April 4-5.
