Class 2A postseason action kicks off on February 8 with the 16 Sectional tournaments. From those sectionals, the top two placers will move on to the District tournaments on February 15. The top two finishers from all eight District tournaments will advance to the 2020 Iowa High School State Tournament.

District 1 - Algona

Sectional 1 - Clear Lake, Sectional 2 - Humboldt

Class 2A District 1 will be hosted by Algona and feature 21 ranked wrestlers. Thirteen of the ranked wrestlers will be coming from the Clear Lake Sectional while the other eight will be trying to qualify through the Humboldt Sectional. The only top-ranked wrestler in this District will be Webster City’s Camron Phetxoumphone at 106 pounds. The weight to watch here will be 126 as we should get a matchup between Clear Lake’s #4 Sam Nelson and Osage’s #5 Joe Sullivan at both Sectionals and Districts. As far as the team race goes, this will likely come down to Webster City and Osage. Osage has the more complete team with five ranked wrestlers and should have what it takes to bring home a District title.

District 2 - Atlantic

Sectional 3 - ADM, Sectional 4 - Glenwood

Class 2A District 2 will be held in Atlantic and feature 16 ranked wrestlers. Thirteen of the ranked wrestlers will come from the ADM Sectional while just three ranked wrestlers will be competing at the Glenwood Sectional. One of the two ranked guys wrestlers at Glenwood will be Red Oak’s #1 ranked Justin McCunn. Top-ranked guys at the ADM Sectional include Winterset’s Bryce Hatten at 132 and ADM’s Kaden Sutton at heavyweight. A fun weight to watch here will be 138 as Winterset’s #4 Kruise Kiburz will have Kuemper’s #9 Shea Parkis at both Sectionals and Districts. The team race at this one could get interesting as both Atlantic and #5 Winterset are very solid teams top to bottom. This could very well come down to who can rack up the most bonus points, so Winterset will have a slight edge at the District crown.

District 3 - Ballard

Sectional 5 - Gilbert, Sectional 6 - Union, LaPorte City

Class 2A District 3 will be at Ballard and feature 17 ranked wrestlers. The Gilbert Sectional will have nine ranked competitors and the Union, LaPorte City Sectional will have eight. This District will have two top-ranked guys as Union, LaPorte City’s Adam Ahrendsen and Woodward-Granger’s Cody Fisher are the top guys at 160 and 220, respectively. Cody Fisher is also Class 2A’s highest-ranked P4P wrestler coming in at #5. The weight to watch here is 120; four ranked wrestlers will be competing for the two qualifying spots. #2 Kolten Crawford, #3 Dominik Ridout, and #7 Taylor Kolthoff will have to battle just to make it out of Sectionals. Coming from the other Sectional will be #10 Christian Eslick. This team race will likely be a one-horse race as #2 Union, Laporte City could run away with the District championship.

District 4 - Center Point-Urbana

Sectional 7 - West Delaware, Sectional 8 - Williamsburg

Class 2A District 4 will take place at Center Point-Urbana and feature 20 ranked wrestlers. The Sectionals are divided evenly with 10 ranked wrestlers at each. West Delaware brings a third of the ranked wrestlers to the District, including top-ranked 195-pounder Wyatt Voelker. The other top guy at this District will be Monticello’s Kain Luensman at 138 — 138 will be the weight to watch as Luensman will be joined by #2 Jalen Schropp of Williamsburg, #8 Keegan Scheeler of Center Point-Urbana, and #10 Logan Peyton of West Delaware. Williamsburg will put up a good fight, but at the end of the day #1 West Delaware will be the favorite to win a District title.

District 5 - Knoxville

Sectional 9 - Albia, Sectional 10 - Carlisle

Class 2A District 5 will be hosted by Knoxville and feature 15 ranked wrestlers. The Carlisle Sectional will have eight ranked wrestlers while the other seven ranked wrestlers will compete at the Albia Sectional. Two-time defending state champ and #1-ranked 120 pounder Matthew Lewis from Centerville will be competing at this District. Other top-ranked guys in action will be Centerville’s Nathan Genobana at 126 and EBF’s Sage Walker at 182. 126 will be the weight to watch as Genobana will have to face #3 Brock Beck of Grinnel. #3 Centerville will be the favorite for a team title, but don’t be surprised if Eddyville-Blakesburg-Freemont or Van Meter-Earlham step up either and bring home a District crown.

District 6 - New Hampton

Sectional 11 - Decorah, Sectional 12 - Independence

Class 2A District 6 will be held in New Hampton and feature 15 ranked wrestlers. Nine of those ranked wrestlers will be competing at the Independence Sectional, while the other six will be in Decorah. Crestwood’s Carter Fousek will be the lone #1-ranked wrestler competing at this district. The weight to watch will be 195 as New Hampton’s #2 Evan Rosonke will have to wrestle Independence’s #4 Christian Kremer. The team race will probably come down to Iowa Falls-Alden and #4 Independence, but when all is said and done, Independence has more bonus point ability and will likely finish as District champions.

District 7 - Sheldon

Sectional 13 - Sergeant Bluff-Luton, Sectional 14 - Spirit Lake Park

Class 2A District 7 will be at Sheldon and feature 16 ranked wrestlers. Both Sectionals will bring eight ranked wrestlers, but the Sergeant Bluff-Luton Sectional will also have the top-ranked 152-pounder in Jack Gaukel. Heavyweight will be the weight to watch here as Central Lyon/George-Little Rock’’s #4 Jerret Meyer, Boyden Hull/Rock Valley’s #7 Chris Van Der Brink, and Sheldon/South O’Brien’s #10 TK Lang will have to battle it out for those top two qualifying spots. Central Lyon will be pushing them all the way, but Sergeant Bluff-Luton is the favorite to finish with a team title here.

District 8 - Washington

Sectional 15 - Davenport Assumption, Sectional 16 - Fairfield

Class 2A District 8 will take place at Washington and feature 20 ranked wrestlers. The Davenport Assumption Sectional will have 13 ranked wrestlers competing while the Fairfield Sectional will have another seven. 145-pounder Hayden Taylor of Solon will be the only top-ranked wrestler at this District. The weight to watch here will be 106 pounds as #2 Derrick Bass, #6 Dawson Townsend, and #9 Jaxon Bussa will all be vying for those top two spots. #5 Solon will be the favorite for a team title here, but could be pushed by Davenport Assumption.
