Gary Steen has been on a roll lately, winning two of the premier high school tournaments of the season, Ironman and Powerade. He'll take those championship talents to Pittsburgh, as the Reynolds High School junior committed via social media to join head coach Keith Gavin's Panther program.

Steen is ranked #4 in the nation at 113 pounds and projects as a 125/133 pounder in college. Steen placed third last year at the Pennsylvania AA Championships.

Steen managed a seventh-place finish at Fargo in the 113 pounds Greco-Roman Junior division and was a double 2019 FloNationals All-American in both freestyle and Greco-Roman. Steen kicked it into high gear for folkstyle season, winning the prestigious Ironman over #10 Brett Unger of Notre Dame and then defeating #5 Carter Dibert of Franklin Regional over the holidays at the always stacked Powerade Tournament.

Pittsburgh has two more years of Mickey Phillippi at 133, which would allow Steen to redshirt his true freshman season before taking over the spot. If Steen stays at 125, he'll face competition from Branden Fenton and Colton Camacho for the starting job (assuming they too stay at 125).

The Panthers have two Reynolds Raiders on the team right now, Cole Matthews and Cole Rickert. Matthews was teammates with Steen in high school and is also his cousin.
