The Midlands is one of the most meatgrinderest tournament of the year, and the 57th edition is no exception. Though we haven't yet wrestled the quarterfinals, the annual holiday season classic has already produced a stunning array of upsets that will disrupt the collegiate landscape.

R16 157: Markus Hartman (Army) 4-2 over #6 Quincy Monday (Princeton)

Monday was the first #1 seed to fall here in Hoffman Estates.

R16 197: Alex Hopkins (Army) 6-5 over #7 Thomas Lane (Cal Poly)

Unless he wants to meet him in the consolation rounds, Jacob Warner will have to wait to avenge his NCAA loss to Lane, as the Mustangs' highest-seeded wrestler fell in the round of 16.

R64 149: Graham Rooks (Indiana) 5-4 over #8 Yahya Thomas (Northwestern) 

Thomas was the first top-10 wrestler to be sent to the wrestle backs earlier than expected.

The Black Nights have dispensed their fair share of upsets today, but in the round of 16 it was their highest-ranked wrestler on the receiving end in the round of 16.

SIUE's Williams punched a ticket to the quarters and added to the tally of top-10 wrestlers who took losses in the first session.

R16 285: Yaraslau Slavikouski (Harvard) 8-7 over #12 Josh Hokit (Fresno State) 

(LINK) Slavikouski proved how dangerous a landmine he could be when he downed All-American Josh Hokit and advanced to the quarters. 


R64 149: Jeren Glosser (Iowa) Fall 3:18 over #14 Cole Martin (Wisconsin)

(LINK) Iowa has three 149-pounders in the quarterfinals. Glosser helped make that possible with his pigtail upset of Martin.


R16 165: Danny Braunagel (Illinois) 10-6 over #15 Shayne Oster (Northwestern)

(LINK) Danny making a case that he should be ranked like his brother Zach. 


R16 174: Victor Marcelli (Virginia) 4-0 over #17 Kevin Parker (Princeton)

(LINK) Marcelli just beat the guy who beat Dean Sherry who beat Marcelli. A ranker's delight!


R16 141: Sal Profaci (American) 6-5 over #17 Dresden Simon (Central Michigan)  

(LINK) Profaci's transfer from Michigan to American for his senior season is paying dividends. 


R64 157: Ethan Karsten (American) Fall 2:01 over #21 Mason Kauffman (Northern Illinois) 

(LINK) Karsten upends NIU's Kauffman early in the morning. 


R32 125: Nolan Hellickson (Harvard) 4-3 over #24 Joe Manchio (Columbia)

(LINK) Hellickson cooled off a red hot Manchio in an intra-Ivy battle.


R64 285: Thomas Penola (Purdue) 8-2 over #25 Jordan Earnest (Ohio) 

(LINK) Penola is pulling a Jacob Kasper and bumping up to heavyweight from 184 and taking out ranked wrestlers as he goes.
