Team Georgia just recently wrapped up a Fargo performance for the ages, notching more All-Americans and champions in 2019 than in any other trip to Fargo in their state's history. We saw how they outperformed their recent results in this breakdown, now, we'll take a deeper dive into the Peach State's epic accomplishment at the UMSC 16U and Junior National Championships.

First, some cold hard facts about Georgia's 2019 Fargo.

Junior Women's Freestyle: 3 All-Americans

16U Women's Freestyle: 1 Champ, 1 All-American

Junior Greco-Roman: 1 Champ, 4 All-Americans

16U Greco-Roman: 3rd place, 2 Champs, 8 All-Americans

Junior Men's Freestyle: 4 All-Americans

16U Men's Freestyle: 4th place, 9 All-Americans

Total: 4 Champs, 29 All-Americans

Now that's what I call some cold hard facts about Georgia's excellent Fargo performance!

But how does that compare to Georgia's best of year's past? Glad you asked. Thankfully I've got a copy of Jason Bryant's Fargo All-Almanac, which tells me all that information. Those records are/were:

Junior Women's Freestyle: 6 All-Americans

16U Women's Freestyle: 5 All-Americans

Junior Greco-Roman: 6 All-Americans

16U Greco-Roman: 6 All-Americans

Junior Men's Freestyle: 3 All-Americans

16U Men's Freestyle: 4 All-Americans

The 16 and under squad from Georiga had themselves a tournament. They set new records for number of medalists in both Greco and men's freestyle, earning a team trophy in both tournaments as well. That is tremendous for what is generally considered a non-power state when it comes to wrestling.

To get a better idea of how transformational this crop of wrestlers might be, consider that wrestlers from the state of Georgia have reached All-American status at the NCAA Championship just four times in the last five years. Obviously, there is a lot that needs to happen for Fargo 16U success to translate into collegiate credentials, but there is also certainly room to be more than a little optimistic about the future.

Below are 16U Georgian wrestlers who medaled in both the freestyle and Greco-Roman tournaments, in case you want a shortlist of young Georgians to follow.
