The Last Five Years Of Yasar Dogu Results All In One Place

The final Ranking Series event of the year is coming up in Istanbul, Turkey. It is a fine designation by United World Wrestling as the Yasar Dogu is one of the toughest tournaments in the world.

The 47th annual Yasar Dogu will represent the final opportunity for freestyle wrestlers to improve their seed for this year's world championships in Kazakhstan. While it is only the second year of being a Ranking Series event, it was chosen because of how historically strong it is.

Nearly half (19 of 40) of the men's freestyle world medalists from Budapest have wrestled at the Yasar Dogu since 2014. In total, 45 different world medalists have competed in Turkey over the past five years. That's individuals, not total number of medals.

All four of the 2018 world medalists at 57kg have wrestled at Dogu in the last five years, as well as both 2017 finalists. Euro Games champ Mahir Amiraslanov was the runner-up in 2017 and bronze the year before, when three-time European champ Giorgi Edisherashvili was the other bronze. Additionally, two Mongolian athletes who eventually won medals up at 61kg placed at the Dogu at 57kg over the past five years.

Up at 65kg, medalists like Frank Chamizo, Ganzorig, Gadzhiev, and Bajrang have all wrestled in Istanbul. World champs Denis Tsargush and Jordan Burroughs have won 74kg, but Dogu is so tough that two of Burroughs' eight career losses on the senior level have happed here.

Turkey obviously always send their stars, from world and Olympic champ Taha Akgul to multiple time medalists Selim Yasar and Soner Demirtas, as well as world bronzes Yakup Gor and Suleyman Atli. Turkish studs like Mustafa Kaya and Fatih Erdin have won medals a combined seven times at the Yasar Dogu.

Based on their post match interviews, you can expect nearly all of the men's freestyle winners from Final X to be in attendance this year. Check out how America stacks up over the last five years when it comes to earned Dogu medals.
