After plenty of tweets and comments asking “Where’s Zain?” or “Is Bo wrestling 92?” we finally have our answers as the Nittany Lions have registered for this year’s US Open.

Last season they took the freestyle season off with David Taylor basically being the lone Lion to compete. But this year looks to be a different story as the hammers of Happy Valley will get in on the action.

At the Senior level for the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club along with Zain Retherford at 65kg and Bo Nickal at 92kg is fellow multiple-time NCAA champion Jason Nolf who is entered at 70kg. Redshirt freshman Jarod Verkleeren, is also enter at 70kg and now two-time All-American Nick Lee will be in the mix at 65 along with Retherford.

Nick Nevills will get in on the action at 125kg after being on the sideline for most of the season behind this year’s NCAA Champ Anthony Cassar.

The only questions yet to be answered are where is Mark Hall and where is Vincenzo Joseph?

Hall, the two-time Junior World Champion, and Cenzo, the two-time NCAA Champion, are yet to register for this year’s tournament. If they are going to attempt to make this year’s World Team they will have to enter the Last Chance Qualifier in May seeing as they are not qualified for the World Team Trials yet.

In the Junior division true freshman AA Roman Bravo-Young will enter at 61kg along with fellow freshman Brody Teske, who spent this season redshirting, at 57kg. Joe Lee is registered at 74kg in the Junior division as well. He’s spent the last year training at NLWC just like his older brother Nick did during what would have been his high school senior season. Michael Beard is set to compete at 92kg.

A few future Nittany Lions to watch out for at the open are Aaron Brooks and Seth Nevills. Brooks spent the year in the EAP program after finishing as the runner-up at last year’s Junior World Championships. He will once again be at 79kg. Nevills is currently registered as unattached as he is set to wrestle at 125kg.

Verkleeren will join Mason Manville in the greco division as well. Verkleeren will wrestle at 67kg and Manville will be at 77kg.
