It's like Christmas Eve, but for wrestling. But before we unwrap out NCAA Championship presents, let's check out everyone's favorite maps: heat maps!
We took the list of all 330 national qualifiers and marked their hometown on a map. The locations were based on what is listed on each wrestler's school bio page, we made no judgment calls based on who moved where and when or where they went to high school, etc. That map can be found in the tweet below.

Josh Terao of American University is from Hawaii. Navy's Josh Roetman hails from Alaska. The Joshes are making sure the 49th and 50th states are being represented in Pittsburgh.
Next, using Flo's sophisticated mapping technology, we can take those markers, assign them a point value based on the wrestlers' seeds, and create a neat looking heat map. Behold:

When we focus on the contiguous states, we see the usual hotbeds popping up (apologies to Misters Terao and Roetman for cropping them out). Let's pull in even tighter to check out the northeast and midwest.

That's a lot of hotbeds within driving distance of Pittsburgh. We suspect that might have something to do with the increased demand for tickets.
We'll be back with more fun maps once the tournament is over. Stay tuned!
