2018 NCAA champion Seth Gross' name spotted in the NCAA transfer portal.— Jason Bryant ? (@jasonmbryant) March 5, 2019
The two-time NCAA finalist wrestled just one match this season, a pin over Josiah Kline of Arizona State back in November. On the evening of January 17th, Gross confirmed he was out for the year.
It is unclear at this time if Gross will receive a sixth year of eligibility or not. It is also not clear what schools, if any, South Dakota State will potentially block Gross from transferring to.
Wrestlers who enter the transfer portal can still remain at their school. Entering the portal does not mean the student-athlete has to transfer. However, any student who enters the portal runs the risk of having their school change or outright cancel their scholarship package for the next school year. The program also do not need to reserve a spot on their roster for the athlete.
As mentioned above, the Jackrabbit coaching staff and administration may still block Gross from transferring to certain schools, however, they cannot block him from speaking to other coaching staffs.
