They say the Super Bowl was last week. But in my opinion, the real super bowl is tonight, as we have a #1 vs #2 mega dual. The Penn State Nittany Lions infiltrates the capital city of Columbus to take on the Buckeyes in St John Arena.

I'm in Austin, specifically in Kania HQ, to watch the dual in his very nicely appointed domicile.

The good boy called Yoshi is all here with us. Also, I clearly meant to 'vasa', and not 'casa'. Vasa de Kania is a popular phrase that we all know and love.

Just got word that the match may start at 8:45 PM ET. In the meantime, let's take a live look inside the 13,000+ St. John Arena.

Wow, very calm. I suspect a metaphorical storm is on the way, in the form of two rad NCAA wrestling teams.

And we're starting at 133! I approve.

And the broadcast is underway. The Arena is looking quite a bit fuller than in that last tweet. This should be a good one.

133: #16 Roman Bravo-Young (PSU) vs #6 Luke Pletcher (OSU)

1st period: And Roman Bravo-Young takes the mat! Coach Sanderson is not resting the true-freshman. And we're underway. Pletcher attempting a few elbow post high crotches. RBY is on the reattacks. No scores after 2 minutes. Blast double attempt by Pletcher at 35 seconds but it goes nowhere. Thin knee brace on RBY's right leg but he seems to be moving OK. Period ends 0-0.

2nd period: RBY begins underneath. A stand from Bravo-Young and he's out in about 7 seconds. He leads 1-0. Pletcher with the front headlock but it's stalemated and the fans voice their displeasure that Pletchdawg was not allowed to continue working from that position. RBY changing his stance, alternating lefty and right leg lead. Short duck attempt is stopped. Period ends RBY leading 1-0.

3rd period: Pletcher will start on bottom. Pletcher is also out in under 10 seconds, or thereabouts. This one is going to be won in neutral. In short time RBY starts chasing on all fours. Pletcher lowers his level and defends. And it's OVERTIME. SUDDEN VICTORY.

SV: Another blast double from Pletcher and RBY is just able to pull up Pletcher's arms and get back to neutral. Big snap into a single by Pletcher, he's got RBY in trouble, but no flip, it's a high flyer just as Pletcher takes him down that flips Pletcher over and they both reset to neutral, no harm no foul. Into tiebreakers.

TB1: RBY is up, Pletcher drops to a leg, RBY kicks out in about 6 or 7 seconds. The 30 second period ends 2-1, not Pletcher will start on bottom.

TB2: Pletcher is up and back down and then up and then back down and then out of bouts. Restart after just 8 seconds. Now RBY down on a leg, he'll get a count and picks up a stall, but not after precious time expires. 8 seconds now on the restart. Granby attempt by Pletcher but RBY follows, and time is out. RBY picks up the big win over All-American Luke Pletcher. RBY is pumped! He tosses his headgear on the ground, and that's going to be a point. Costly mistake.

PSU 2, OSU 0

141: #6 Nick Lee (PSU) vs #2 Joey McKenna (OSU)

1st period: McKenna comes out firing, tricep barrel roll to an upper bottom throw attempt, has Nick Lee in teetering on one leg but Lee wrestles out of it to his credit. Now on a single and McKenna converts for two. An escape by Lee and nearly has a reversal but McKenna is up to his feet. Lee has standing rear and McKenna runs out of bounds and picks up a quick stall warning. Lots of action between the true sophomore and redshirt senior. Blast double by McKenna but a deep, deep sprawl by Lee stops that. Period ends 2-1 McKenna.

2nd period: McKenna starts on bottom. He escapes quickly without too much trouble. Hi-C to a double makes it 2 for Lee and another quick escape by McKenna makes it 4-3 McKenna but Tom Ryan wants a review, he's not so sure about that takedown, McKenna may have had a whizzer in. And the call is reversed! Don't see too many of those when the calls are that close. Back in neutral it's 3-1 McKenna. Lee right back in on a shot on the restart but McKenna crotch locks and then muscles his way out of danger. Back in neutral. McKenna on a shot now. Lee sprawls. They're sideways on the mat doing the 3 stooges impressions, McKenna trying to run down that far leg. McKenna gets the two but Lee keeps fighting and nearly gets the reversal in short time. Instead it's just the escape and we go to the third, McKenna leads 5-2, great match, superb pace.

3rd period: Lee is on bottom. Lee hits a switch, which turns into a stand and escape. Then Lee goes right back in on a shot and converts. It's tied 5-5. Now Lee cuts him. Huge faith in his own gas tank. Awesome to see that confidence against a two-time 3rd place finisher. McKenna in on a shot but the reattack comes instantly by Lee and the gambit pays off. McKenna is down and flat. Lee with the 7-6 lead and is riding him out. And that's it, Lee with the upset 7-6. Penn State extends their lead.

PSU 5, OSU 0

149: Jarod Verkleeren (PSU) vs #3 Micah Jordan (OSU)

1st period: We get Verkleeren instead of Berge but both are hammers. It's up to Micky to try and shift the momentum here in Columbus. Level change to a double leg and Jordan almost just shoots past Verk but he gets the takedown. On the restart Verkleeren escapes and it's 2-1. A single leg that Jordan works to finish makes it 4-1 with over a minute left in the period. Verkleeren escapes to make it 4-2. We have an official review with 24 seconds left to see if there is a hands to the face and Bo Jordan, four-time All-American Buckey alum goes out to chat with his younger bro Micah. I hope no hands to the face is called here. We've seen enough of those I think. But there was a clear hands to the face and the PSU challenge pays off. Verk picks up a point and it's 4-3. A shot by Jordan gets stuffed and the arena wants stalling on Penn State. They don't get it and the period ends.

2nd period: We had a cutaway as Nick Lee gets interviewed and a Buckeye bro fixes his hair in the background. It's 5-4 in favor of Jordan when we cut back, not exactly sure hw that happened. Then a duck under by Verkleeren gives Jarod the lead 6-5. An escape by Jordan ties it and then Verk gets hit with a hands to the face. Jordan now leads 7-6. We go to the third and Jordan has a 1 point lead.

3rd period: Jordan escapes to make it 8-6. They're in neutral, but Verk is very much in this. Verkleeren in on a low single, pops out the backdoor. Jordan dives for a far ankle and earns a stalemate, almost gave up a danger takedown. 45 seconds to go, Jordan still up by 2. Jordan on an ankle, but it's Verkleeren who scores. Jordan stands and tries to escape, Verkleeren runs him out of bounds and they call stalling on him. That's Verkleeren's second warning so Jordan gets a point and the one point lead. Penn State challenges. Or do they? They have no choice apparently. The call stands and Verk goes optional start with 12 seconds left to make it 10-8. Verkleeren can't get the last second takedown to Micah manages to get the win and the Buckeyes are on the board.

PSU 5, OSU 3

157: #1 Jason Nolf (PSU) vs #8 Ke-Shawn Hayes (OSU)

1st period: Next Topic jumps out to a 2 point lead in the first 20 seconds. Catch and release strategy in effect. 6-3 now after two more takedowns. I'd describe them but I'll never be able to keep up with my typing. Just watch any Jason Nolf match. The takedowns look like those takedowns. The period ends 8-3.

2nd period: And it's 10-4 in the blink of an eye. Nolf keeps looking for the far-side cradle but will settle for a takedown clinic. For now anyway. 14-6 with over 2 minutes of riding time.

3rd period: Hayes gets to try and ride but Nolf is up and out. The variety of takes from Nolf is impressive but what is really nuts is the number of finishes he uses. No combo is ever the same. Bow and arrow will get Nolf some painful backpoints. And there's the techfall. 21-6 in 5:51. Next Topic.

PSU 10, OSU 3

165: #1 Vincenzo Joseph (PSU) vs Te’Shan Campbell (OSU)

1st period: Campbell made the cut back down to 165 and will get the reigning national champ in his first match of the season down to weight. Cenzo and his lead hips leaning into Te'Shan, who is working on an underhook. They wrestle out of it. Then Cenzo goes single to double and his arms are wrapped around the legs like tentacles and he slams Campbell's hips down for the TD. Campbell stands and escapes. Cenzo back on Campbell's legs and gets a takedown in short time. The period ends Cenzo up 4-1.

2nd period: Campbell will get a turn on top. Cenzo stands and makes it 5-1. One minute left in the second period. Another takedown by Cenzo makes it 7-1 as he rides out the period, just as riding time gets to 60 seconds.

3rd period: Campbell is out as Cenzo wants to work in neutral some more. Cenzo taking ground, Campbell trying to keep his distance. Go behind from Cenzo and it's 9-2, riding time over a minute so basically locked up. Campbell gets hit twice for stalling as Cenzo goes for the final ride out. It's 10-2 as time runs out, but 11-2 is the final with the riding time point. Nittany Lions are starting to run away with this one.

PSU: 14, OSU 3

We'll take a break now that we've reached the midpoint. Three more national champions are slated to take the mat, so plenty of prime time wrestling awaits!

174: #1 Mark Hall (PSU) vs #17 Ethan Smith (OSU)

1st period: Ethan Smith gets in on a leg first but Hall puts on a display keeping his other leg away from Smith. Eventually, Hall spins into a leg of his own converts for two, much to the consternation of Smith, the Buckeye bench, and the entire arena. Tom Ryan throws the brick saying Smith had a takedown. Or does he? The official says the brick was too late. Plus the official penalizes Coach Ryan for mat control, taking a team point away, much to the consternation of Buckeye nation. It's 2-1 with less than a minute to go when we finally restart.

2nd period: Ethan Smith will be on bottom for this period. Hall chases him down to keep the ride going. Hall now tying up Smith's arms and collects over a minute of riding time and counting. Hall completely frustrating Smith at every turn, but no actual turns. So the period ends, no more points, no stall warnings, but over 2 minutes of RT.

3rd period. Hall starts on bottom but no for long, as he's out quickly to make it 3-1. A takedown makes it 5-1. Option start when they return to the center as Hall will work for bonus points. 7-2 after another takedown with a minute to go. Catch and release time. 11-4 with 30 seconds to go. RT locked up. 12-4 is the final. It's 18-2 on the team scoreboard, due to the deduction on the Buckeyes.

PSU 18, OSU 2

184: Mason Manville (PSU) vs #1 Myles Martin (OSU)

1st period: Pay no heed to the banner picture for this article, it's Mason Manville versus the #1 ranked Buckeye from Penns Grove, NJ. Two takedowns in less than 90 seconds and it's 4-1. 6-2 after some early catch and release tactics. That's how the period ends, over a minute of riding time for Martin.

2nd period. Manville takes down and Martin goes optional. It's 6-3. Martin also scoring with a variety of attacks, singles, double, now a firemans carry. it's 8-4 as Martin is driven out of bounds. And Martin gets hit with a stall call for pushing Manville out. The official is picked up on the mic saying 'you can't do that'. Technically true. Martin with a feint to one side, attack to the other, and it's 10-4. Tight waist and half mostly to ride out the second.

3rd period: Escapes, snap, go behind, 13-4. Escapes, Manville in on a leg, Martin sits back, stalemate. Manville staying on his offensive but only Martin is scoring. In neutral, 15-6 Martin with RT locked up. Martin not really looking for the pin. Martin will win by major decision.

PSU 18, OSU 6

The attendance is announced at 13,276. Pretty awesome crowd that set the St. John Arena for a wrestling match. Unfortunately for most of the attendees they are not getting the results they were hoping for.

197: #1 Bo Nickal (PSU) vs #2 Kollin Moore (OSU)

1st period: It's not often you see #1 vs #2 in a dual meet but that's what we got right now. Moore with the first shot and he's in on a leg but Nickal wrestles out of it. Moore again in on another shot but Nickal sits the corner and nearly comes out on top. Instead Nickal attacks the nearside cradle. He's got it locked up. Moore is in trouble. Nickal adjusting, no one finishes better. There's the fall! Bo Nickal pins #2 Kollin Moore in the first period! Incredible.

PSU 24, OSU 6

285: #3 Anthony Cassar (PSU) vs Chase Singletary (OSU)

1st period: Trademark elbow post-blast double by the one sometimes called Caesar but is, in fact, Anthony Cassar and it's 2-0. Escape from Singletary and another takedown and it's 4-1. Level change and another double and Cassar races out to a 6-2 lead with over a minute of riding time as time runs out in the first period.

2nd period: Singletary underneath to start and second. He escapes to make it 6-3. A quick takedown makes it 8-3 as Cassar begins to pour it on. 10-4. Singletary trying to hang in there but Cassar is too much in neutral. Two-on-one tilt for Cassar but no back points.

3rd: Cassar on bottom, escapes and gets another tuddy. It's 13-4, RT locked up, a little over a minute left in the period. Now its 15-5, 30 seconds to go. Cassar inching up to 4 minutes of riding time. 17-5, Cassar going for a suck back and Singletary gets a reversal in the final seconds. TIme runs out and the final it 19-7, or maybe 20-8? The broadcast cut to commercial before I could make a note of it. I will check twitter but Cassar won a lot to a little. Twitter says 18-8, and of course you can always trust twitter.

PSU 28, OSU 6

125: Devin Schnupp (PSU) vs Malik Heinselman (OSU)

1st period: We close things out with the lightest of the lightweight. Malik is one of the Cozy Boys, the self-proclaimed nickname of Ohio State's stellar freshman class. No scores after a cautious 90 seconds. A pretty duckunder by Malik nets him the first two points. An escape by Schnupp makes it 2-1 with just under a minute in the first. Period ends the same way.

2nd period: Heinselman begins underneath and escapes to make it 3-1. Now Heinselman in on a shot, trying to out the backdoor. After a struggle he comes out on top and makes it 5-1. We get blood time with 20 seconds left in the first period. Kudos to all the Buckeye fans still in St. John Arena. This match was locked up a couple few matches ago. Heinselman unable to keep Schnupp down in short time and Schnupp earns an escape. It's 5-2 going into the final period of regulation in the dual meet.

3rd period: Schnupp chose down and escapes with little difficulty. It's 5-3, 90 seconds left in the third. Heinselman impressive with his quickness, drops down on a single and picks up two. He lets Schnupp up to try and work for a major with 30 seconds to go. No more points are scored and Heinselman takes it 7-4.

Penn State runs away with it despite the decision by Ohio State in the final match.

FINAL SCORE: PSU 28, OSU 9

Thanks for reading along as we transcribed the events of the super major mega king kong Brobdingnagian dual meet of the year. Penn State kind of ruined all the drama by winning 133 and 141 but we all go enjoy some high quality wrestling nonetheless. Thanks again for the being the best and smartest and most noble sports fans on planet earth. Apologies for the typos, see you next time!
