Iowa travels to Nebraska for what should be an entertaining B1G Ten tilt. The Hawkeyes have the higher ranked wrestler at six weights but the Huskers match up pretty well with them. Key bouts should be at 141 and 165.

First note is that it's circulating on social media that Vince Turk will go for the Hawks at 141.

We're starting at 141.


141: Vince Turk (Iowa)    vs.   Chad Red (Nebraska)

1st: Turk with his right leg heavily wrapped. Turk working a good Russian tie, limiting Red from working from space. Wrap arm for Turk! Deep. Red leg passes on the edge and Red gets his leg bent; potentially dangerous no change. 

Another shot by Turk pulled up by Red. Turk into underhook, Red near the ege. Turk half shot forces stall call. Good period for Turk.

2nd: Turk goes down. After a restart, Turk builds to his feet. Red standing. Hawks want a stall call but they go oob. Red looks for cradle, but just breaks him back down with it. Not close to a turn but Red racking up RT. OOB again. :22 on restart. Red rides out.

3rd: Red takes down. Red up, Turk lifts and mat returns. Red is out but gets hit for stalling again. 1-1.

Red staying in center but clearly in defense mode. Iowa wants a stall. Errant shot by Turk and quick go behind. 3-1 with :04.

Result: Red dec. Turk, 4-1

149: #16-Pat Lugo (Iowa)  vs.  Jordan Shearer (Nebraska)

1st: Lugo in on a sweep early but Shearer squares up. Great job by Lugo continuing to adjust positions. He converts after about :30 in on the shot. Shearer out quickly on restart.

Back neutral, Lugo shoots him off and Shearer is dinged. Lugo busy. Working head hard. He snaps and scramble ensues. Shearer dive rolls and he's in position for 2. He has it. 

Lugo almost gets a R2 as they go oob. They'll review it. Confirmed, Lugo R2, he's back in front 4-3 w/ :25. Shearer can't get out.

2nd: Pat underneath and out quickly. Forward pressure by Lugo gets another stall call. It's 6-3 Lugo. Pace slows considerably. Shearer shot w/ :20. Reattack by Lugo and he gets it just before buzzer. 8-3.

3rd: Shearer on bottom. He's out. Lugo still marching forward. Now he lays off a little. That's gonna do it.

Result: Lugo dec. Shearer, 8-4

Team Score: Tied at 3


157: #7-Kaleb Young (Iowa)   vs.    #2-Tyler Berger (Nebraska)

1st: Good Top 10 battle here. Shot by Berger, Young in front head out front. Stalemate :35 in. Shot from way far out from Young but he works in deep. Berger fights to get to a stalemate. 2:00 to go. Pace slows. Tie ups and handfighting. That's all we'll get.

2nd: Young on bottom. Young works up but towards the edge and granby's oob. Young out on restart. under :30 RT for Berger. Shot from space for Berger. Working on it. It slips and Berger is scooping the heel. All tangled up. Stalemated. 

3rd: Berger's turn down. Good mat return for Young but right back up and out is Berger. Right into a head inside single. Deep. Young is trying to sit the corner. Stalemated. 

Under a minute now. Deep double by Berger. Young hit for stalling. Wicked scramble! Young is close. Reverse lock by Berger. Stalemated. Wow. 

Another shot by Berger. Late. We're going OT.

OT: Ankel shot by Berger and there's no where to go for Young. Finishes.

Result: Berger dec. Young 3-1

Team Score: Nebraska, 6-3


165: #2-Alex Marinelli (Iowa)    vs.    #6-Isaiah White (Nebraska)

1st: Here's a big 'un. Another Top 10 bout. Typical Bull pace off the whistle. Heavy, heavy clubs. Collar tie by White slowing Bull down. White pressure in with underhook. All handfighting and positioning. There wasn't a single shot that period by either guy.

2nd: White on bottom. Good ride by Bull, making it look easy. :38 RT before going oob. On restart, White to his feet, turns in, lift oob by Bull. White to his feet again, turns in, Bull drops to a leg and White bellies down. Bull riding like a .... bull (?) or some other animal that rides hard. 

:20 on restart. Another mat return for Marinelli. He rides out. Huge. 

3rd: Marinelli on bottom. Quad pods up but forced out as he's peeling hands. Marinelli right out on restart. Hands-to-the-face. Pretty clear. 1pt. to the Bull. 2-0. RT locked. White busier but nothing close. Good D by Marinelli. That's it. 

Result: Marinelli dec. White, 3-0

Team Score: Tied 6-6


174: Keegan Shaw.  vs.  #9-Mikey Labriola (Nebraska)

1st: It's Shaw. Bowman still out. Slow pace till halfway through when Labs gets in deep on a low single but good fight by Shaw and we're back neutral. Labs same shot. Working on it for quite a while. Stalemated. Another deep shot by Labs. Shaw gets an arm under though and we get a scoreless first.

2nd: Labriola on bottom. He's out right away. Underhook, body lock. Outside trip for just two. Shaw hurt on the exchange. He's fine. Back to action. Labs riding to the right side. Good action both guys. They go oob w/ :26. Labs traps and ankle and forces stall on Shaw. And another stall. That was quick. Rides out. RT at 1:12. 4-0.

3rd: Shaw down. Labs goes neutral. 4-1. Hi-C by Labriola right off the whistle and an escape. 6-2. Body lock to his back. No NF i guess. it's 8-3. Shaw is hurt. Was a non-contact thing. They awarded a TD to Labs, which doesn't seem right. 

Shaw is good to go. Labriola w/ choice. Bottom, He's out. And he's wrestling super high pace. Another TD and kick. 13-4. Shaw's knee is bent to uneasy proportions. But a lot of heart fighting off another score. Plus RT for Labs.

Result: Labriola md. Shaw 14-4

Team Score: Nebraska 10-6


184: #16-Cash Wilcke (Iowa)  vs.  #3-Taylor Venz (Nebraska)

1st: Patty cake early. Halfway through and it's Wilcke on a leg attack but not close. Venz from front head. Stalemate. Venz moving forward but not much offense until he goes double unders before the buzzer. Scoreless.

2nd: Venz picks down. Vanz sits. Stands. Out quick. Deep wrap arm by Wilcke. Nice shot. Didn't finish quick though and Venz has him tied up.. Looking to cut corner. Wilcke adjusting. He gets it! 2-0 Cash. Venz out and we're back tied. Venz immediate shot. Wilcke on edge. Huskers want a stall/flee. 2-2 end of 2.

3rd: Cash's choice. Venz goes to work on top. Tough ride. They make their way to the edge. 1:22 on restart. Sit by Wilcke, Venz follows. Venz looks intent on trying to ride out. Wilcke's head on the mat. Stall on him.

Wilcke gets out as Venz gets out of position. Venz has RT. Venz does something very ... not smart. I don't think he knew he had RT. Wilcke TD and wins it 5-3.

Result: Wilcke dec. Venz, 5-3

197: #5-Jacob Warner (Iowa)  vs.  #11-Eric Schultz (Nebraska)

1st: No action most of the period until a deep shot by Schultz w/ short time. Warner heavy hips and tries to counter from front. Schultz squares. Buzzer.

2nd: Schultz on bottom. Simple but effective ride by Warner. Schultz to his feet, big mat return by Warner.  And again. :54 on restart. Schultz real busy but Warner follows. Several restarts as they make their way oob. Stall on top at :20. They must have went oob 10 times this period. Warner rides out.

3rd: Warner down. Out quickly. Schultz w/ urgency but good Warner D. Double from space but quick Warner counter! That was quick for a big man.

Nebraska review to see if they were in bounds. Call stands.

Schultz starts back down. Schultz out w/ :10 but can't get a TD.

Result: Warner dec. Schultz, 4-1

285: #5-Sam Stoll (Iowa)  vs. #14-David Jensen (Nebraska)

1st: Iowa in good shape, heavily favored in the next three. Big Sam looked great last match and comes out active in this one. Stoll moving forward, doing his thing in controlling positions. No score.

2nd: Stoll starts down. Jensen sneaky good on top. Let's see how he does here. Stoll right to his feet but Jensen drives him out. He gets dinged for it. Stoll to his feet again but Jensen drops to a leg and returns him. Leg Turk in now for Jensen. Switches to a leg ride. Stalling on Stoll who just can't build up. When he does, leg comes back in. Jensen rides out. 

3rd: Jensen takes top. Remember both guys have a stall. Jensen break down. turks the leg. Stoll flat. Crowd wants a call. They get it. 1-0 w/ RT locked. Jensen continues to work a leg turk. Another stall call w/ short time. David Jensen wins.

Result: Jensen dec. Stoll 3-0.

Team Score: Nebraska 13-12


125:  #2-Spencer Lee (Iowa)  vs.  #14-Zeke Moisey (Nebraska)

1st: Moisey on his knees early. Blasts through a double. Scores it. Spencer looking to reverse, but Moisey back on top safely. Good restart for Lee and he's out. Lightening quick TD by Lee. 3-2 Spencer and after a restart he goes to work w/ his tilt series. He gets to his bar a couple times and gets a turn w/ :45 to go. Almost a fall but they work their way off the mat. 7-2 Spencer. 

2nd: Spencer takes bottom. Quick reversal. 9-2. Zeke gets wrist control and standing but Spencer able to break back down. Riding time approaching 2mins. PD on a high wing restart at :44. Lee rides a head lever and Zeke banged as he's bellied down. Spencer gets a turn for 2. 11-2.

3rd: Zeke's choice. Pro tip: Don't take down. Well done. Neutral start. Snatch single attempt by Zeke but nothing doing. Spencer's pace slows a bit. One way the other for Moisey and he's in deep. Spencer with a whizzer but Zeke gets it. Zeke releases and goes for mixer but Spencer covers for 2 and...I guess 4. 17-4 + RT.

Result: Lee md. Moisey, 18-4

Team Score: Iowa 16-13


133: #3-Austin DeSanto (Iowa)  vs.  Brian Peska (Nebraska)

1st: Typical high-paced DeSanto. Peska tying him up for a minute but ADS hits his fireman's. PD and reset at 1:44. DeSanto continues to ride. Good action by Peska underneath as they go oob a couple times. Then ADS cuts. 2-1. Double unders for Peska. Nothing there. Easy, easy go behind for Austin. 4-1 end of 1.

2nd: Peska down, Austin optional starts. 4-2. Peska tries a throw from double unders but not close and ADS counters. Cuts. Double leg scores for Austin. 8-3 and another cut. Lefty Hi-C scores and DeSanto playing catch-and-release. 16-7 after 2.

3rd: DeSanto takes down. Peska half hearted cradle look but Austin is out. More easy td's for Austin till he gets the tech.

Result: DeSanto tf. Peska, 25-10
