Got plans to watch the big football games this weekend? Well cancel them! There's far too much awesome wrestling going on this weekend.

First, did you all enjoy Nacho Libre Night in Fargo? Because by the time you read this, the Northern Illinois at North Dakota State dual on Thursday night will be over. Or maybe I get this article done ahead of time. I doubt it. But either way, here's a link to watch it live or via archives. Please enjoy!

Frenzy At The Fieldhouse

WATCH LIVE ON FLO

The one and only Zebulin Miller has already been on Kent State's campus gathering and posting videos in anticipation of this event in the way that only Zeb can.

Four D1 teams will be battling it out. #3 Iowa, #19 Wisconsin, and CSU-Bakersfield will all travel to Kent State. The first match is at 4 PM ET, so sneak out of the office early and make sure Lumberg doesn't see you and rope you into a meeting with the Bobs.

FULL SCHEDULE

4 PM ET

Kent State vs. CSU Bakersfield

#2 Kyle Conel may or may not wrestle. But if he does it'll be his first match since his Cinderella third-place finish in Cleveland.

5:30 PM ET

Kent State vs. Wisconsin

We saw Chris Bono's first match as the Badgers' head coach last week. The Badgers were victorious. How will they fare in Coach Bono's second dual and first away meet? Only one way to find out!

Iowa vs. CSU Bakersfield

Featuring Spencer Lee's first collegiate match since his title-winning performance in March, as well as Austin DeSanto's first time strapping on a black and gold singlet. #16 Max Murin, #6 Pat Lugo, #17 Kaleb Young, #4 Alex Marinelli, and #13 Cash Wilcke are also all expected to step on the mat on Friday.

This could also be Iowa's 1,000th dual meet victory. Now that's what I call an impressive round number.

7 PM ET

Kent State vs. Iowa

The Hawkeyes had their media day earlier this week. Here's head coach Tom Brands dropping a Duran Duran reference on everyone. It was wonderful.

Wisconsin vs. CSU Bakersfield

By the way, if you haven't seen the Highs and Lows of Kyle Conel, you need to remedy that immediately. For anyone every wondering "why wrestling?" this film answers the question while tugging on all the heartstrings. It's worth a watch Friday night after the wrestling concludes.

Truly inspirational, and I'm not just saying that for the hype.

Journeymen MyHouse Northeast Duals

WATCH LIVE ON FLO

Saturday will be the perfect day to completely ignore college football thanks to the Journeymen MyHouse Northeast Duals!

10:00AM ET

Mat 1: #7 Nebraska vs. Utah Valley

165 lbs: #9 Isaiah White, Nebraska vs #15 Demetrius Romero, UVU

The Huskers and Wolverines will travel over 3,000 miles combined to wrestle outside of Albany, New York. I love it.

Mat 2: Sacred Heart vs. Appalachian State

The Pioneers are the last non-Ivy League D1 wrestling program in New England. App State, meanwhile, is one of seven programs in North Carolina. After Pennsylvania, North Carolina has the most D1 programs, a fact that surprises a lot of people. Not me, of course, but many other people are still surprised by that.

Mat 3: Virginia vs. Ithaca College

Mat 5: Edinboro vs. The Citadel

12:00PM ET

Mat 1: #7 Nebraska vs. Drexel

197 lbs: #17 Eric Schultz, Nebraska vs #9 Stephen Loiseau, Drexel

If this match occurs, it will be a useful data point in helping me unravel the horrifying conundrum that is the 197-pound top 20.

Mat 2: Bloomsburg vs. Purdue

Mat 3: Virginia vs. Wyoming

#20 Cam Coy, UVA vs #10 Branson Ashworth, Wyoming

It's always fun to see state schools embrace their ancient stereotypes with their mascots. The Cavaliers and the Cowboys will ride into battle against each other for first time since 2011. Wyoming holds a 3-1 advantage in the all-time records.

Mat 4: #13 Rutgers vs. Appalachian State

Mat 5: Sacred Heart vs. The Citadel

Pat Conroy is a famous novelist who graduated from the Citadel and wrote a fictional story about a military college called The Lords of Discipline. I never read it but the movie was pretty good!

Mat 6: Utah Valley vs. Niagara CCC

2:00PM ET

Mat 1: #7 Nebraska vs. Virginia

125 lbs: #5 Zeke Moisey, Nebraska vs #7 Louie Hayes, UVA

165 lbs: #9 Isaiah White, Nebraska vs #20 Cam Coy, UVA

The Huskers will likely start a team hailing from Pennsylvania, Nebraska, Indiana, Oregon, Illinois, Minnesota, and South Dakota, with more state potentially represented by the time Big Tens rolls around. I'm assuming the entire coaching staff has at least platinum frequent flyer status.

Mat 2: Drexel vs. Purdue

Mat 4: #13 Rutgers vs. Utah Valley

Mat 5: Edinboro vs. Wyoming

4:00PM ET

Mat 1: Virginia vs. LIU Post

This is the last season for D2's LIU Post. But don't get discouraged, the program is being disbanded, quite the contrary, it's being elevated to D1 status as it merges athletic programs with it's sister campus, LIU Brooklyn. It's a bit complicated but I break it down for you here. Hooray new D1 program!

Mat 2: Drexel vs. The Citadel

Mat 4: Bloomsburg vs. Sacred Heart

Mat 5: Ithaca vs. Appalachian State

Each team will send on average 15 wrestlers, both attached and unattached to maintain redshirts, who will be drawn into four or five pools per weight class for a round-robin competition.

  • #17 Christian Moody, Oklahoma 125 lbs
  • #8 Montorie Bridges, Wyoming 133 lbs

  • #7 Jordan Kutler, Lehigh 174 lbs
  • #10 Dylan Lydy, Purdue 174 lbs
  • #14 Ben Harvey, Army 174 lbs
  • #17 Daniel Bullard, North Carolina State 174 lbs
  • #6 Ryan Preisch, Lehigh 184 lbs
  • #9 Nick Reenan, North Carolina State 184 lbs
  • #15 Corey Hazel, Lock Haven 184 lbs
  • #11 Chris Weiler, Lehigh 197 lbs
  • #14 Jake Woodley, Oklahoma 197 lbs
  • #6 Jordan Wood, Lehigh 285 lbs
  • #9 Thomas Haines, Lock Haven 285 lbs
  • #16 Tate Orndorff, Utah Valley 285 lbs

Our main men Ryan Holmes and Ollie Astone will be calling matches and keeping you up to date as to what mats to follow and when. You'll probably want to give them both a follow on twitter as you ignore the NFL all Sunday long.

Kent State at #1 Penn State, 2:00 PM

WATCH LIVE ON FLO

No need to quit watching wrestling after the Collegiate Classic winds down. Penn State will take the mat for the first time at home in Happy Valley against Kent State, fresh off their fieldhouse frenzy.

Cael Sanderson has revealed his plan for the Nittany Lions' first match of the season. Devin Schnupp will start at 125. Ramon Bravo-Young will not even try on a redshirt, starting right away at 133. Nick Lee will also be deferring his opportunity to defer eligibility at 141. Jarod Verkleeren will start at 149, although do not be surprised if Penn State's other blue-chip redshirt freshman, Brady Berge, competes with Verkleeren for the starting spot all season long.

Two-time defending NCAA Champs man the next two PSU spots, as Jason Nolf and Vincenzo Joseph will be back at 157 and 165 respectively. Mark Hall, a two-time finalist and one-time champ, will be at 174. Shakur Rasheed and Bo Nickal swap weights, with the former dropping down to 184 and the third two-time defending NCAA champ on the roster moving up to 197. Anthony Cassar will bump up to 285 this season and gets the start over two-time All-American Nick Nevills. You can also expect a season-long battle for the starting spot at heavyweight.

Kyle Conel will potentially be in the lineup for the Golden Flashes, setting up a dynamite early season clash between #1 and #2 in the top 20 at 197.

If you're still on the fence and need, say, five more reasons to watch the dual before committing, please allow our Wrestling Nomad to try and persuade you

#5 Arizona State vs. #18 South Dakota State, 2:00 PM

WATCH LIVE ON FLO

You're going to want to have two screens available for Sunday afternoon, because not only will Penn State be trotting out four NCAA champs in their 2 PM dual, but Arizona State and South Dakota State will have a pair of NCAA champs between them in their afternoon clash.

A card that could feature both Seth Gross and Zahid Valencia was too big for Brookings, and the dual was moved to the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, a 3,000 plus seater about an hour south of SDSU's campus.

Besides the opportunity to see Seth and Zahid's first match of the season, this dual might also feature a top 20 matchup at 149-pounds between #11 Josh Maruca of Arizona State and #17 Henry Pohlmeyer of South Dakota State.

After the match, and only then, will it be safe to switch on a football game. Enjoy your weekend my friends!
