We got our first look at the 2018-19 Buckeyes as they held their wrestle-offs. 

Micah Jordan and Ke-Shawn Hayes settled the score for the 149 pound spot in a best of three series won by Jordan in two straight matches. Te'shan Campbell also claimed the series at 174 with two straight wins over Ethan Smith.

149: Micah Jordan vs. Ke-Shawn Hayes - Match 1

1st period: Hayes had a hold of the leg but couldn't finish and they run out of bounds. Stalemate after they are caught in a tie up. Micah doing more of the shooting in this period. Hayes looking for go-behinds and re-attacks. Scoreless period.

2nd period: Hayes' choice and he defers. Jordan takes neutral. Shot by Micah, Hayes was looking go-behind again but gets blocked off. Stalemate with 15 seconds to go. Another scoreless period.

3rd period: Hayes starts on bottom. Gains escape to take 1-0 lead. Shot by Hayes blocked off by Micah. Micah takes a shot , Hayes on the re-attack. No one able to score. Shot by Hayes and they go out of bounds. Shot by Micah and he scores the takedown to take the lead with short time left and he gets the 2-1 win.

Final: Micah win 2-1.


174: TeShan Campbell vs. Ethan Smith - Match 1

1st period: Scoreless first period. Some action as period ended. Neither guy able to get in too deep on a shot.

2nd period: Campbell chooses down to start. Caution Campbell. Escape Campbell to take 1-0 lead. Shot by Smith, blocked off by Campbell. Shot by Smith, but Campbell able to hold him off and get his leg back after Smith was trying to come out the back, and they are back on thei feet. Period ends with Campbell leading 1-0.

3rd period: Smith starts on bottom. Campbell sits him into a crab ride, not much action until he looks for a tilt but Smith peels hands and kicks away as Campbell dropped to a leg to tie it at 1-1. Riding time not a factor (Campbell has 24 seconds). Shot by Smith, Campbell looked re-attack, then another attack by Smith, they scramble a bit and go out of bounds. Period ends tied at 1-1.

OT: Blast double for Campbell, Smith almost catches him coming in but eventually buckles and Campbell scores the winning takedown.

Final: Campbell 3-1.


125: Malik Heinselman vs. Brakan Mead

1st period: Heinselman came out firing and was in on a shot but it gets stopped for PD. Heinselman scores a takedown on the restart and Mead scores the escape to make it 2-1. They go out of bounds with 1min remaining in the period. Heinselman takes the 2-1 lead to the 2nd.

2nd period: Heinselman defers. Mead goes down to start. Escape Mead to tie it up. They go out of bounds and Heinselman goes low single off the restart. Looking to come out the back and finally does to score the takedown and go up 4-2. He cuts Mead loose to make it 4-3. They stop it for Heinselman to fix his headgear. Heinselman with 33 seconds of RT. Period ends at 4-3, Heinselman in the lead.

3rd period: Heinselman chooses neutral. Shot by Mead to the low ankle, Heinselman kicks away. Shot from space by Mead, Heinselman catches him coming in. Match ends at 4-3 Heinselman.

Final: Heinselman win 4-3.


133: Luke Pletcher vs. Alex Felix

1st period: Shot by Pletcher but they get stuck and it's stalemated. Pletcher runs down a takewdown to take the lead. Pletcher had a tilt locked up but they rolled out of bounds. Pletcher picks up 2 backpoints off a tilt. Pletcher now working for the fall and gets it with 8 seconds left.

Final: Pletcher by fall


157: Elijah Cleary vs Aaron Rehfeldt

1st period: Shot by Cleary, he snags both ankles and takes the 2-0 lead. Converts to a tilt and picks up 4BPs to go up 6-0.

2nd period: Cleary chooses bottom. He has over a minute of RT. Cleary gets up to his feet and is returned by Rehfeldt then gets back to his feet and hits a switch to gain a reversal and go up 8-0. They go out of bounds a few times with Cleary remaining on top and racking up RT. Blood time as the period ends.

3rd period: Rehfeldt chooses neutral to start. Cleary has 2:39 of RT. Stalling on Cleary. Shot by Cleary, Rehfeldt kicks out. Anoth shot by Cleary, he's just holding onto the leg and we get a stalemate with a few seconds to go. Cleary takes the match 9-0 with RT.

Final: Cleary 9-0


149: Micah Jordan vs. Ke-Shawn Hayes - Match 2

1st period: Shot by Hayes, blocked off by Micah. They clear the tie and work back to the center. Shot by Micah, Hayes slips a bit but regains his footing and they get back to their feet. Micah with a collar tie and underhook, Hayes clears it and circle back to the center. Scoreless first.

2nd period: They start neautral. Takedown by Micah to take the lead. Micah comes out to the side and was looking for a cradle. Hayes fights it off and gains the escape to make it 2-1. Micah drops to a low ankle shot and Hayes kicks out. Micah almost scores on the edge, the refs discuss it and confirm the takedown after saying no takedown. Micah up 4-1 on the restart. Period ends with Micah in the lead 4-1 and he has 56 seconds of RT.

3rd period: Micah starts on bottom Hayes gets his second caution. First one came in the second. Micah scores the quick escape. Action takes them out of bounds with 58 seconds to go. Shot by Micah and he converts to another takedown to go up 7-1, Micah has 1:08 of RT when Hayes scores the escape. Micah wins 8-1 with RT.

Final: Micah wins 8-1 (w/ 1:08 of RT)

1st period: Smith in on a leg, Campbell fights it off and they go out of bounds with no scoring happening. Scoreless period.

2nd period: Smith defers. Campbell goes down. They run out of bounds quickly after the start. Campbell gets a reversal on the restart to go up 2-0. Smith escapes after a stalemate to make it 2-1. Shot by Smith and great defense by Campbell, Smith was close to finishing, but Campbell clears and they get back to the center. Shot by Smith as the period ends. Campbell leads 2-1.

3rd period: Smith goes down to start. Crab ride from Campbell, Smith works back to his base. Blood time stops the action. Back to action. Campbell back to the crab ride and holding on and it stalemated. Smith escape after the restart to tie it up at 2-2. RT not a factor. Short time left and Campbell scores the winning takedown.

Final: Campbell wins 4-2.


165: Kaleb Romero vs Fritz Schierl

1st period: Shot by Romero and he scores it, he was looking to lock up a cradle by Schiel able to get away and score an escape. Another shot by Romero but Schierl shucks him away. PD stops another Romero attack. Double by Romero, switches to a high single and scores it, Schierl gets another escape to make it 4-2 Romero and that's how the period ends.

2nd period: Schierl defers, Romero goes down. Romero up to his feet and big mat return from Schierl. Romero back to his feet and gets away this time. Shot by Romero, fought off by Schierl. Period ends with Romero leading 5-3.

3rd period: Schierl starts on bottom. Escape Schierl makes it 5-3. RT not a factor. Unsportsmanlike on Romero, 1pt awarded to Schierl makes it 5-4. Big double by Romero to extend his lead. Escape Schierl puts it at 7-5. And that's how it ends.

Final: Romero wins 7-5


184: Myles Martin vs. Gavin Hoffman

1st period: Shot by Hoffman, Martin passes a leg and scores off Hoffman's attack, escape Hoffman, takedown Martin, another escape for Hoffman. Action takes them out of bounds. Shot by Hoffman, reattack by Martin and he scores again to make it 6-2. Martin with 53 seconds of RT. Martin rides out the rest of the period on top and ends with 1:25 of RT.

2nd period: Hoffman starts on bottom. Escape for Hoffman. Shot Martin, had it up high and tried to finish low but Hoffman scrambles away and they go out of bounds. Attacks by both guys then Martin scores a go-behind to go up 8-3. Escape Hoffman makes it 8-4. Martin with 2:02 of RT.

3rd period: Martin starts on bottom. Reversal Martin then he cuts Hoffman loose to make it 10-5. Shot Hoffman, re-shot Martin and he scores again. Another escape. RT all locked up for Martin. And a slick misdirection takedown from Martin, another escape for Hoffman and time runs out.

Final: Martin wins 15-7 (w/ 2:24 of RT)


197: Kollin Moore vs. Kevin Snyder 

1st period: Takedown Moore, escape Snyder. Barrel roll for Moore to pick up another takedown and go up 4-1. Moore with the tilt to pick up 4BP and go up 8-1. They go out of bounds. Escpae Snyder off the restart. Moore already with 1:49 of RT. Moore with 8-2 lead.

2nd period: Snyder starts on bottom. 4BP right off the start for Moore. Moore picking up some BP to get the 19-2 tech.

Final: Moore by tech 19-2


285: Chase Singletary vs Gary Traub

1st period: Shots by Singletary in the first garner no points as Traub is able to fight off the attacks and they end scoreless.

2nd period: Traub starts down and gains the escape to go up 1-0. Shot by Singletary, Traub feeds the hips and they break and work back to center. Stalling warning on Traub. Period ends with Traub leading 1-0.

3rd period: Singletary starts on bottom and get the escape to tie it. RT not a factor. Shot by Singletary. Action stops and is stalemated. Snap by Traub, shot by Singletary. Traub fights it off again. Another shot by Singletary but time runs out and they go to OT tied 1-1.

OT: No score.

(1) 30 second rideout: Singletary goes down. Up to his feet and Traub with the mat return. They go out of bounds. Singletary almost had a reversal but ends up with just an escape to make it 2-1.

(2) 30 second rideout: Traub gets the reversal to win it 3-2.

Final: Traub wins 3-2.
