2011. That’s the last time that Adam Busiello lost a match at Super 32.

The following year is when his flawless run began as he claimed his first belt in the middle school division. A pair of belts in the MS division followed before he stepped up to the high school level where it was more of the same.

I know the nature of this tournament,” Busiello said. “I wrestled in it when I was in fourth grade in the middle school division when they didn’t have an elementary division. But I learned early on what type of work I needed to put in if I wanted to have a belt around my waist.

So far the preparation has been on point when it comes to getting ready for Super 32. But it’s not just how he prepares, it’s also in how he takes the time after the regular season to recover.

“I know that I don’t compete a lot, but that’s what keeps me fresh and allows me to wrestle my best when it’s time to,” he said.

Throw it back to his first HS division title where he defeated Jojo Aragona:

And he’s not making any changes to his preparation for this year. He’s been laying low and training with UFC fighter and 2007 NCAA Champ Gregor Gillespie. He’s even been keeping the same mindset that he adopted from entering this tournament as a youngster even though the reality of this year’s tournament could mean he becomes the first four-time S32 champ.

“I really haven’t thought about that honestly,” Busiello admitted. “It might sound cliche but I really take it one at a time. At this tournament everyone is good and I know that they are gunning for me. I can’t start thinking about winning the finals in the second round.”

Even though another flawless run would make him the first to win four straight in the high school division, it would also make seven straight titles for him dating back to his middle school days.

“If I win my bracket again, that’s when I’ll look at it as seven belts,” he said. “But like I said, I can’t do that until it happens. These guys want to beat me more than they want to win the whole thing themselves so I’ve got to stay focused on just winning each match.”
