Journeymen's fall event has become an excellent stand alone event as Frank Popolizio works hard to round out his field.

This year it will feature 75 wrestlers that are either ranked or were at one point. It also includes a field that has expanded nationally, with strong groups from Minnesota and Missouri.

The full list of entries can be found here. Wrestlers will be separated into 12-man groups for a round-robin style competition.

Journeymen kicks off 9 AM October 7th, so catch all the action on Flo before checking out Who's #1.

Here we'll project the match ups we're anticipating most.

125lbs - Lachlan McNeil (CAN) vs. #9-Sean Pierson (PA)

Pierson took 3rd last year at PA big school states and earned runner-up honors at FloNationals. He'll have an intriguing match with McNeil, a Canadian who made Cadet Pan Am finals twice - splitting matches with Wisconsin's Hunter Lewis, who is in the field at 130.

182lbs - #9-Gerrit Nijenhuis (PA) vs. #4-Jackson Turley (VA)

Two fine uncommitted recruits. Turley is a SR who was twice runner-up at National Preps. He took 6th this year at Fargo. Nijenhuis was 3rd in PA and a runner-up at FloNationals.

120lbs - #10-Nick Bouzakis (FL) vs. #6-Ryan Sullivan (PA)

Bouzakis enters high school already ranked with wins over several national studs. Sullivan won a PA big school state title as a Junior and is committed to Pitt. This is a rematch of a Powerade semi, won by Bouzakis 16-11.

152lbs - #3-Connor Brady (OH) vs. #4-Thayne Lawrence (PA)

We'll learn a great deal about Lawrence here. He popped on the radar last year as a sophomore when he beat a Top 3 Alex Lloyd (MN) at Super 32. He went on to win the small school state title by knocking off another nationally ranked wrestlers (Justin McCoy) in finals. He could face Brady, a multi-time state champ and this year's 3rd place finisher in Fargo who is committed to Virginia Tech.

195lbs - #9-Silas Allred (IN) vs. #2-Jacob Cardenas (NJ)

Perhaps more than anyone in the field, Allred will be under a microscope. He had a very solid Sophomore campaign, going 3-1 at the state tournament before winning USAW Folk Nats, which vaulted him into the Top 10. How he competes against one of the nation's premier 195lbers in Cardenas will give us a good gauge.

170lbs - #12-Kai Bele (FL) vs. #11-Chris Foca (NJ)

Still just a JR, Bele starts moving into the upperweights now. He wrestles with both grit and athleticism. A match with Foca, who's capable of beating anyone in the country, might be the most entertaining bout of the event.

130lbs - Ryan Sokol (MN) vs. #7-Sammy Hillegas (NY)

If you're noticing a theme here, good. Almost all these match ups offer us a chance to learn about guys who are young, inconsistent, or who haven't hit a lot of elite talent. My #1 potential match up gives us two of them.

Hillegas DNP'd as a FR at S32. Last year he took took 4th. He's a two-time PA Champ but has just a couple elite wins.

Ryan Sokol is the wrestling equivalent of Keyser Soze. He came into Fargo before his Freshman year and mopped up, beating Dom Serrano, Trevor Mastrogiovanni, and Reece Witcraft in succession. But 'just like that' he was gone. He experienced an injury and hasn't wrestled a major since. It's great to have him back.
