If you've seen our conference rankings, there was an interesting #1 at 174 pounds for the ACC.

In a bit of a lineup shakeup at Virginia Tech, two-time All-American David McFadden will be bumping up to 174 this season. That allows stud redshirt freshman Mekhi Lewis to compete at 165lbs.

There was some evidence to this being a possibility over the summer, as Lewis made the Junior world team at 74kg/163lbs after wrestling 165 all of last season. A few weeks later, McFadden made the U23 world team at 79kg/174lbs.

Lewis was 28-2 during his redshirt season, with his only losses coming to eventual NCAA 4th placer Chance Marsteller at the Southern Scuffle. McFadden entered the national tournament in Cleveland as the #2 seed, having won CKLV and the ACC en route to an undefeated regular season. He would finish 35-2 and fifth on the podium, one step up from his true freshman season in 2015-16.
