After picking up a few in-state commitments, Chris Bono and the new Badgers' staff have landed a major verbal from beyond the Wisconsin borders. Earlier this evening, Illinois state champ Peter Christensen announced his decision to attend the Big Ten school for college.

Wisconsin's 2019 recruiting class is starting to become a little more clear. Along with Christensen, the Badgers have also received verbals from Akron finalist Josh Otto (Arrowhead, WI) and Fargo champ Eric Barnett (Greenville, WI).

The #4 ranked 195 pounder in the country, Christensen has steadily improved his results throughout high school. As a freshman at 160lbs, he did not qualify for the 3A state tournament, and then qualified but did not place last year at 182. This past season, he went 44-5 en route to the 195lb title for Montini Catholic.

After not placing at Fargo after his freshman year, Christensen finished fifth as a Cadet 195 last July and then made the Junior 195 finals a month ago. He wrestled 92kg in Akron, finishing fourth in a very solid field. The Izzy Style hammer is ranked the 22nd recruit on the 2019 Big Board.

With Hunter Ritter no longer a part of the Badger program, Christensen slots in perfectly to take over 197. Mason Reinhardt will hold the spot for the next two years, and then, after Christensen redshirts, he'll have to beat out Andrew Salemme for the job. Christensen selected Wisconsin over Iowa State and Indiana.

Below, watch Christensen avenge an Akron loss to Konner Doucet with a win in the Fargo round of 16.
