What can you say about Anthony Cassiopi besides, “He’s a beast.”
Over the last two years, the Iowa-bound big man has showed out in Fargo. By claiming the 285-pound Junior division titles both this year and last year it made him the second wrestler in history to win two Junior Triple Crowns. He won the Folkstyle National title in April, then doubled up for the second straight year in Fargo to make history. He joined Senior Greco world team member Adam Coon, who accomplished this feat in 2012 and 2013.
Anyway, let’s take a look at just how incredible Cassiopi's run was starting with freestyle. He absolutely crushed the field on the way to defending his title. Not one of his matches made it to the second period. But let’s take it a step further. Outside of his 12-2 tech over Mason Parris in the semis, he didn’t even reach the two-minute mark.
Watch Cassioppi pin last year’s Cadet freestyle champ Nash Hutmacher in the finals:
It was a full-on business trip in which he gave up just two points. That was in his 12-2 dismantling of the future Michigan heavyweight.
But he wasn’t done there.
Cassiopi added two more days of dominance to claim his second stop sign of the week when he mowed down the Junior Greco field. This is the first time he had a match go the distance throughout all the days of wrestling he did. He beat Lee Harrington 10-3 in the round of 16. But that’s where Cassiopi cut off the scoring and took it back to the regularly scheduled program of mauling everyone in his path until he cemented his name in the history books with two techs and a fall to close things out.
Watch him round out his second triple crown with a tech in the Greco finals:
