5 Crazy Fargo Memories
5 Crazy Fargo Memories
While we all get tied up in the big throws, upsets and title winning performances, there’s always a few off the mat memories happening too.

Everyone knows just how massive of an event Fargo is each year. We spend countless days watching the Cadet and Junior National Championships at the Fargodome, then migrate across the street to Buffalo Wild Wings to attempt to unwind before going back for another helping of the craziness.
And while we all get tied up in the big throws, upsets, and title-winning performances, there’s always those things that happen off the mat that make the memories from year to year that much better. Who knows what type of stories we will be telling about this year’s tournament, which gets underway Saturday, July 14, and runs through Friday, July 20, but we definitely have some great ones to look back on.
While we prepare for the long days in the Dome, let’s take a look back at a few of the wild things that took place off the mat over the years.
The Braxton Amos Trade
Everyone knows that four-time Fargo champ Braxton Amos is from West Virginia. "Country Roads" starts playing when he walks into a room. However, rules allow him to wrestle for Ohio for Junior Duals since West Virginia does not send a team. There is more to it, but it’s all completely allowed. However, the bottom line here is that in 2016 he repped Ohio for duals, then was part of Team West Virginia in Fargo.
When this was discovered by an opposing coach, he brought it to the attention of USA Wrestling that Amos was supposed to be representing the same state for duals that he did for Fargo. This sparked some confusion, but in the end, all of Amos’ points were then transferred from Team West Virginia to Team Ohio.

Ashton Sharp may have given one of the most incredible post-match interviews in Fargo history.

Oregon Singlet Gets Banned
Our very own Willie Saylor gave the best explanation of this situation a few years back when he reminisced about some other incredible moments in Fargo history. But the gist of this story is that these singlets featured something a bit over the line and needed to be taken out of the rotation. Here’s a picture of the singlet. See if you can spot what got the team in some trouble.

And just because it was an incredible showing of coordination by a ton of wrestlers, "The Harlem Shake."
