Best Bets For Sunday Morning in Akron

We got several comments here at Flo today that we should have had FloZone for Day 1 of Akron. And they were right. There was so much action and so much high level wrestling across both the Under 23 and Cadet Divisions it was a bit of an overload.

The good news is that on Sunday morning, we're down to the quarters for U23's and semifinals for the Cadets.

And what a round it will be. Below are my favorite matchups. So make some eggs, put the coffee on. Open up Flo and start the morning off right. Action gets started at 9:30 AM Eastern. Finals should happen around 11AM for Cadets and 12:30 ish for U23's. Follow @Flowrestling for updates.

Where: Akron, Ohio | When: June 2-3

Cadet Semifinals

48KG: Richie Figueroa, CA vs. Cole Skinner, OH

Cole Skinner placed 5th in the World last year but to make the team again he'll have to go through FloNats Champ Figueroa who has outscored his opponents 30-0.

55KG: Robbie Howard, NJ vs. Teague Travis, MO

Another returning World Team Member, Howard was a stone cold killer in his quarterfinal win over Trevor MAstrogiovanni. Teague Travis, a freshman state champ in Missouri this year, was one of Saturday's biggest surprises as he beat not one, but two Fargo Champs (Escalera, Ragusin).

55KG: Dominick Serrano, CO vs. Julian Tagg, OH

Tagg also made the World Team last year and could be on course to meet Howard in the finals. First though, he'll have to get through Fargo Finalist and FloNats Champ Serrano, who is dynamic and non-stop.

60KG: Josh Saunders, MO vs. Ryan Franco, CA

Saunders is a favorite to make his first World Team but this is an excellent match up of young talent and a Fargo final rematch from last year that Saunders won 8-0.

65KG: Carson Manville, VA vs. Bryce Andonian, OH

Manville started off his attempt to reach the finals again in great fashion on Saturday, beating Fargo Runner-Up Kevon Davenport. Next he gets the ultra hot Andonian who posted a 0:38 tech of Aiden Medora, who Manville beat in Fargo finals last year. It's the most anticipated match of the Cadet semi's.

92KG: Jacob Cardenas, NJ vs. Albert Ferrari, TX

Cardenas came in with almost no freestyle experience but his Round 2 win over 2-time Fargo Champ Braxton Amos let everyone know he's A-OK with the style difference. Ferrari also won Fargo this year and the matchup is likely for the #1 spot in the rankings.

U23 Quarterfinals

61KG: Roman Bravo-Young, PSU vs. Sean Fausz, NC State

RBY looked light and loose as the high school senior teched three college opponents on Saturday. Sunday offers the first real test though, as Sean Fausz represents a Top 10 NCAA guy.

65KG: Kevin Jack, NC State vs. Luke Pletcher, Ohio State

Two All Americans. Two different weights. (They never hit when Luke was at 141). This will be fun as both Jack's and Pletcher's style seem more suited for folk. A freestyle match will be very interesting.

70KG: Tyler Berger, Nebraska vs. Ke-Shawn Hayes, Ohio State

Berger had a (by his standard) so-so regular season but turned it on at the right time and placed 3rd at the big show. It should be an excellent bout with Ke-Shawn having a lot of previous FS success. Berger made the U23 Trials finals last year, losing to Richie Lewis.

74KG: Kennedy Monday, N. Carolina vs. Kaleb Young, Iowa

Monday had an excellent season freshman campaign for the Tar Heels, knocking off the #2 seed (Joey Lavalle) and coming within a match of placing at NCAA's. It will be a good test for Young and Iowa fans to see where he stacks up.

And Just for good measure...

U23 Potential Semifinals

61KG: Vito Arujau, Cornell vs. Nick Picininni, OK State

65KG: Mitch McKee, MINN vs. Kaid Brock, OK State

70KG: Patrick Lugo, Iowa vs. Hayden Hidlay, NC State

74KG: Josh Shields, ASU vs. Evan Wick, WISC

79KG: Jordan Kutler, LEH vs. Daniel Lewis, MIZZ

79KG: Joe Smith, OK State vs. David McFadden, VTech
