February 21 National Girls High School Wrestling Rankings

The National Girls High School Rankings for February 21, 2018 have been released, recognizing the top high school girl wrestlers in the nation. It is the fourth ranking of the 2017-18 season.

USA Wrestling, FloWrestling and the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum have partnered to create national rankings for high school girls wrestlers.

There has been some movement among the No. 1 wrestlers, based upon weight class changes and recent results.

  • California senior Alleida Martinez of Selma High School, who was No. 1 at 117 pounds in the last poll, has qualified to compete at 111 for the CIF California states this week. She is dropped to 112, where she remains No. 1.

  • Wisconsin senior Alisha Howk of River Falls High School, who was No. 1 at 112 pounds, has competed at a higher weight this season. She jumps up to 117 pounds, where she remains No. 1.

  • Wisconsin junior Macey Kilty of River Falls High School, who was No. 1 at 127 pounds in recent rankings, has grown and competed at 143 pounds when winning a silver medal at the Klippan Lady Open Cadet event in Sweden last week. Kilty moves up to No. 1 at 144 pounds.

  • With Kilty leaving 127 pounds, previous No. 2 Michaela Beck of New York, a senior at Trevor Day High School, becomes the No. 1 this ranking. Beck won a gold medal at the Senior-level Flatz Open in Austria recently.

The ranking list indicates what the athlete’s previous ranking was for the January 31, 2018 rankings.

It has been an extremely busy time in girls high school wrestling. Official girls state championships have been held in Hawaii, Washington and Tennessee in recent weekends. Many other states which do not yet have an official girls state championships also held unofficial state meets in January and February. Two of the biggest official girls state championships are scheduled for this coming weekend in California and Texas.

The release dates for the rest of the high school rankings for 2017-18 are scheduled for March 14, April 11, May 23 and July 11.

The staffs from these three leading wrestling organizations are working together to strategically publish this ranking throughout the year. The girls high school ranking will appear on the websites of all three organizations, and be promoted through each of their different media platforms.

This ranking will evaluate all girls enrolled in grades 9-12, and include athletes from all 50 states. There are six states which sponsor official girls state high school championships, while many other states are also developing their girls high school program.

Coaches, parents and athletes are encouraged to continue providing information about specific athletes and their achievements throughout the year for the committee to consider. If they have information on specific girls who should be considered for ranking, please send it by email to girlsrankings@usawrestling.org
