Alex Marinelli Set To Make Hawkeyes Debut

The Bull will be running this weekend. Alex Marinelli is making his Iowa Hawkeyes debut this Friday, LIVE on Flo.

According to Cody Goodwin of Hawk Central, the redshirt freshman is going to be wrestling in his first varsity action on this weekend's roadtrip to Rutgers and Maryland.

Although he has not wrestled a match yet this season due to injury, the #13th-ranked Marinelli could drastically change the Hawkeyes' lineup. Marinelli gives Iowa a potential All-American at 165.

Marinelli should face John Van Brill of Rutgers on Friday night. Although the Scarlet Knights lost on the road to Lock Haven this past weekend, they are considered a very tough matchup for the Hawkeyes. Rutgers' home gym, the RAC, is sold out, a point that does not seem to faze Marinelli:

I've been in that environment before. They say its sold out or whatever, but I've been in New Jersey before, wrestling Blair, and it's a packed gym.

When Iowa sent out its official press release about the match, Marinelli was included, along with 141-pounder Carter Happel and 149-pounder Jeren Glosser. Iowa head coach Tom Brands spoke very highly of both Kaleb Young and Happel.
